Anyone know how to hardwire a dashcam to a 2IS?
I'm planning to run a dashcam after getting a tiny hit and run. I want to hardwire so I can catch the people that do damage the car.

I tapped the power from my rear view mirror. Have been using my dash cam for over a year now and it has been great. Only thing I wish for is being able to record even when the car is off.

No, the purpose of hardwiring is so that you can record and charge the battery when the car is on. The battery in most dash cam do not last long and you won't be able to record in long periods of time without it hooked up to a power source.

^-- not true. The rear view mirror has both 12v constant and ACC (because it piggy backs off the power to the overhead console with lights that are always on, i think) . You dont really want a dashcam directly connected to an always on circuit, as it will eventually drain your battery.
I did this just a few months back, what you want is one of these, to covert from 12v to 5v - http://www.ebay.com/itm/281159347522?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I took it out of the plastic casing, spliced it into the + and - of the rearview mirror wiring harness, then just left the mini usb cable poking out a little bit at the top. The 12v converter easily fits inside the existing mirror wiring covers. It is a super tidy install with literally nothing visible other than the end of the usb cable, and the camera is mostly hidden behind the rearview mirror.
the camera is a B40/A118 btw, here are a couple of samples i uploaded (the first two are of people driving on the wrong side of the road!)
