Is250 vs tsx gas mileage
Hi guys, I live in Ontario, Canada. I currently am selling my Toyota Celica and looking to upgrade to either an IS250 RWD or an Acura TSX. I am leaning toward the lexus however the TSX isn't bad either. Now, I am seeking the second gen IS and first or second gen TSX.
The dilemma I have is that I'm accustomed to great gas mileage so I know that it's not going to be the same. I want to know how many km per tank you guys get on your IS250 rwd. Normal day to day driving - not aggressive- and highway/city if you can. If you're from the states feel free to share as well!
My brother has a 2007 Subaru Legacy Spec B, which comes with a 2.5L and his car consumes a lot of gas. He hyper miles in order to get around 500km so i'm trying not to get to that point. My mom's camry with her 2.4 burns little gas too. So i was just wondering about the major gas consumption differences between the 2.4 and 2.5
If anyone can provide any knowledge on the consumption of the TSX that would be great too!

I used to have a first gen TSX. Had it for just over 100k miles. Fuel consumption was great. Around town it averaged 24-26 mpg and all highway I could easily get up to about 34 mpg.

I usually fill up at around a quarter of a tank, and I spend around $50 USD on average for the Premium 91 Octane gas here in Los Angeles, CA. The car has a 17 gallon tank but you'll just about never fill up more than 13-15 gallons because it keeps a gallon or two in the reserve.
I believe our prices are much higher than elsewhere, because cost of living in L.A. is ridiculously high. (I have a one-bedroom apartment 600 Sq. Ft and it's $1500/mo.) So, I'd guess the gas prices are a tad higher here as well.

I had 2008 Is350 and my wife had 2007 Is250.
IS250 gas milage 24 mpg average city/highway.

We currently have a 2006 Acura TSX 2.4 litre 4 cylinder FWD 5 speed automatic and a 2012 Lexus IS250 2.5 litre V6 AWD 6 speed automatic
The TSX in a mixed cycle (City & Highway) gets 28 MPG and strictly highway 34 MPG

With those kind of numbers, it seems the IS isn't as bad as i thought, and honestly, I have a little bias to the IS. So I think i might go with that.
The mileage on your tsx is incredible! The best deal that comes along will get my money LOL. although I'm really hoping to get the lex. love their cars!

The TSX is a nice car but you can tell it's a 4 cylinder car although VTEC makes it pull nicely at high RPMs, the execution of the is250 makes it a really, really nice car the song that the V6 sings at high RPM is very, very satisfying.
While the interior of the TSX is nice the execution of the IS250's interior blows it away although it is tighter than the TSX space wise. The is250 is a more sophisticated car. The Lexus feels, looks and acts like a more expensive vehicle and whaddya you know it is, by approx. $14K (2006 MSRP VS 2012 MSRP) of course it has AWD which the 06 TSX did not offer.
When we decided to keep the TSX the automatic transmission scared me, google Honda/Acura automatic transmissions if you want a serious scare, however we started changing the trans fluid every year (my wife drives approx. 20K miles per year) and so far (knock on wood) no issues. We now have 188K miles on the TSX. She literally owes us nothing but engine oil & filter changes, trans oil changes, brake pads & rotors, 1 fog light and bulb, 1 tail light bulb, 1 serpentine belt, 1 heated seat switch, 1 bent rim, tires and the heat shield rusted off of the catalytic converter, that's it, it has seriously been a really good vehicle.
The only thing that makes me nervous about the is250 is the direct injection system. It does not have the extra injectors like the is350 which mitigates the carbon build up issues in the heads. They say a redline a day keeps the carbon away, we shall see. I'm also gonna install a oil catch can to help mitigate carbon build up. We currently have 15K miles on the is250.

I'm not to worried about the tranny on either car because for both cars, i am only considering the manual. Just more fun :P
I will definitely look up the info you mentioned about the direct injection system. But can't you just use sea foam every now and again to get rid of some carbon build up?
My family owns only toyotas and we do nothing to service them besides the norm. We recently bought a 2014 crv and no problems there. So i'm looking forward to unprecedented reliability from both. Well so I hope.

Unless you're comparing a Ford super duty and a Prius, fuel efficiency and the associated savings is negligible. The difference between the is and the tsx in terms of savings is a nonfactor and equates to a dollar or two each fill up. Quite honestly, if you're considering two luxury brands, the argument is a bit hypocritical. Replacement parts are not cheap, nor are dealership service rates for both manufacturers.
If your heart is set on a 2nd gen IS, you should really wait and save for a 350. The difference in performance is night and day. You will also not have to worry about issues like carbon build up like stated previously. Just my 2 cents.
