Default Removing plasti dip, is thinner safe for the rim?

Now that I swapped out the loud exhaust for stock I'm gonna take the plasti dip off the rims. The previous owner did a thin coat. I saw a ton of ways to take off the dip with all kinds of liquids. I have wd-40 which needs to soak in for 30 min then scrub off. I also have some paint thinner which seems to work super fast. I don't want it to eat off the clear coat on the rims. I wipe away quickly but does anyone know if I should stay away from the thinner? Thanks

Roll the edges with your fingers and pull it off... that's one of their selling points.

No chemical that will remove this will not also affect the clear-coat. Follow Mike's advice and do it mechanically.

I used mineral spirits to remove the bits that I couldn't peel off. It worked just fine and did not damage the rim.

Thanks, I'll use that for rims 3 and 4. I think lots don't realize when people do cra$$y job it doesn't roll off with the fingers. It was so thin and dry I had to use a fuel line as a finger and push fairly hard on the first rim. Second rim was much better but still kinda thin. If I had goo-gone or black magic tire stuff I saw those work great too. WD40 would have been ok to to not harm the rims.

A micro fiber towel always worked well for me when I couldn't get the thin pieces to pull up by hand. Just rub the towel back n forth over the spots still stuck and it should rub away without too much hassle.

OP - you are right when it's too thin it's harder to get it off... ^^^^ this method works. I had to do this on my beach cruiser to get to of the pieces behind the crank.

The dip removal spray is basically goo gone. It works but I don't know how it will affect unprotected metal. I've dipped many Cars. microfiber and pressure washer work the best. Dip removal works very well too. But like I said I don't know the outcome on noncoated metal

I removed my dip from polished lip before and it doesn't do any damage to the wheels or clear coated surface

Thin layers are harder to remove. Soak in wd40 and scrub it off.

Had the same problem when I tried to remove the dip from my tail lights.. When applied it goes on thick( based on how many coats obvi) but over time the plasti dip wears away in the elements and becomes thin and very hard to work with.. To be honest I just used my fingers and struggled through it. If I was to recommend anything it would be a little bit of heat from a blow dryer.. Softens it up just a bit for ya

That sounds like a horrid idea! Glad you were removing it.
