Default Any Lexus engineers here? (cutting & welding gear selector to shorten it)

So, i have an idea and i need to know if it is easily attainable. I have a 06 6MT, i wanted to slice off ¾ to 1inch off of the gear shift tube and re-weld it to make it shorter. The problem is, I have no idea how the reverse tab mechanism works on the inside of the tube, is it a cable, or a rod? is it possible to shorten both and still maintain function?

Why do you want to do this? To make it a short shifter?

A shorter shift shaft won't change much. Most short shifters are changed in other areas other than the shaft length to achieve a shorter shifter. I learned from experience in my e36 BMW. A common thing to do was swap a shifter from a z3 into a 3 series to make a shorter shifter. Well all it really did was shorten the shaft. The throw was so minimally changed I barely notice

Changing the hieght of the shaft wont effect the "throw."

Your pivot point and length to the linkages are still EXACTLY the same. (Below center console)

Now you will notice a change due to the leverage lost by having a shorter shaft. Hope that makes sense.
