Don't wanna thread-jack, but I was wondering why exhausts are so expensive compared to just not giving a and straight piping it.
Straight pipe on my IS=$125
Exhaust on my IS=$1500

All I know is that if you straight pipe it it'll be 20x as loud and mostly I think you might be just paying for the brand if anything g

How can I achieve a decent rumble without spending more than $300? Not necessarily Invidia mid-pipe, but can I replace some of my stock exhaust with straight pipe and not have to replace it back with stock pipe to pass emissions?

The invidia mid pipe will only remove your secondary cats. You'll still have your primary cats.
