Default Royal Purple any good?

Recently brought some royal purple oil for my 350 but was told not to use it with my IS350. Was told the oil is only good for track use ?

Anyone have any insight?

search around, you will see alot of people use RP. it is a good synthetic oil. Maybe the person said it's not worth paying extra for it unless you track? That makes sense to me.

Which Royal Purple did you get? There are different types of it available. As long as it has the API license that Toyota/Lexus requires on it you should be fine. I mistakenly bought some of the HPS line from them off Amazon a while back for my '07 Sport Trac and didn't notice that it was missing the certification for Ford about a week after I put it in. I still ran it all the way through and just canged it out again with the Royal Purple that had the proper API for my vehicle.

I wouldn't waste my money on high end synthetic oil like Eneos/Royal purple. I track and drag my car and I stick to Mobil 1. But any synthetic oil would work.

Near 90k miles on my '05 built IS350; always ran full syn Mobil 1. Doesn't burn a drop of oil in 8k miles.

With that being said, RP is good oil; but somehow I think you're paying more for the prestige and label than anything.

I use rp on my 350 simply bc I always have with my mr2 for years. Pep boys often has coupons that makes it cheaper than Mobil 1. Also, walmart sells 5 qt jugs now at just about the same price as Mobil 1. I think it just comes down to personal preference. I surely couldn't tell you the difference between the two.

I used Mobil 1 for about 3-4 years, then switched to Royal Purple for 2 years now. Do I feel any different? No. Only reason I got RP is because I got a deal and it was cheaper than Mobil 1 that I could get.

Where can I pickup RP cheaper than Mobil1? If they are the same price I would take RP over Mobil1

I'm running RP right now and I can't tell you there's a difference between this and Mobil 1. However I just buy it because that's what I've always bought when I had my previous car because for some odd reason it seem to help improve its mpg by about 1...

Although I'm pretty sure that's just in my head lol. Maybe purple is just my thing

Edit: I also forgot to mention that it burned oil less than Castrol Fully Synthetic

I only use Royal Purple when there is a sale that makes it worth it over Mobile 1 but there are really no advantages unless you have an engine that has been using strictly Mobile 1 since day one compared to Royal Purple since day 1. My buddy has 3 Porsche Race cars and uses Mobile 1 all the time... but then again he changes his oil before every race I would hate to be flushing $$ down the drain every oil change. I personally use Mobile 1 or even Valvoline and never had any issues.

However, I will say my friend had a freshly built LS2 in his G8 that he ran RP in ONLY after he built it and had it dyno'd. it made a few more HP (~5-7hp) consistently than another engine with almost identical parts that did not run RP in. But idk if I would solely attribute that to the oil, there are so many other factors that determine HP as well as it was a fresher engine. On an IS, i wouldn't think the extra $$ is worth it over time, you will just be paying extra for oil changes

I swear by anything RP. Have always used it. You can even buy it at Walmart. I have put 25, 30k+ miles on the oil. Amazing. I will never again use anything else.
