Default brand new to the forum and need some advice

Hello fellow Lexus owners I'm brand new to the site and need some advice on an issue that I have so I had a alternator issue and I took it to a mechanic and after he was through he said my water pump was leaking I thought to myself well I just replaced my water pump in August of 2014 how could've it went bad but I still had it under warranty so I replaced it again but now #1 I don't have heat and #2 the temperature needle sometimes goes about 3/4 then drops to a little under half and then does it again now idk why I don't have heat when we put brand new coolant in and topped it off and idk why my car is somewhat getting too hot what could be my issues???? Any feedback would help Thanks

Sounds like a thermostat issue. The thermostat opens and closes to allow coolant to pass through the radiator for cooling. It is usually located near the large hose entering your radiator.

If it doesn't open at 180 degrees usually, you over heat, if it is stuck open you have too much cooling and won't get heat in the cabin easily. Pretty easy fix.
