Default IS350 - Front Wheel Bearing Replacement

Hello,

I have a bad bearing on the front left side of my IS350 (2009).

Lexus dealer wants 900 to replace. A small shop has quoted me $250 to repress the bearing, but then another shop said you can't press a new bearing on the IS350 hub assembly--have to replace the whole thing.

Anyone know what the true situation is here? Is it possible to press a new bearing for this model or do i need to go to the full hub assembly replacement?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Tony

Dont hold me to this but it looks like the hub assy on Sewell with ClubLex discount is $219.00 (AWD) or $272.00 for rear wheel drive. Looks like just under 2 hours (1.6 to be exact) of labor according to Motors. This does not include an alignment. Just for reference.

I was going to say the same thing, just order the part from Sewell and have a shop put it on. It will be A LOT less than $900.

Like what has already been stated here, you simply purchase the hub assembly and unbolt the bad one and bolt on the new one. The bearing is encased in a separate hub unit, as pictured in the ebay link above; no need for pressing anything in/out. Purchase the bearing yourself and take it to the shop of your choosing for installation.

I had Timken on my Murano and BMW... never again... none of them lasted a summer, but I guess I have bad luck since every one else on the E46 forums loves them.

Timken, in my opinion, should be an option if you need the part NOW and the OEM is on back order. If you can get the OEM one, do it, you won't regret.

Not really, because you have to remove the axle nut. And unless you have an impact gun or one hell of a breaker bar, you might have an issue releasing those axle nuts.

Good luck!

Also remember to torque the axle nut back to specs and install a new cotter pin.

axle nut on the rear of my 2007 is350 has no cotter pin. I don't think an impact gun will give you the torque. I used a 3 ft. breaker bar and a 12 pt 31 or 32 mm socket (don't remember which and don't hold me to either of those 2 sizes). Get new axle nuts before you begin. They aren't that expensive. You will find one part of it crimped and will have to uncrimp, probably by pounding something in there. You'll see what I mean when you take a look. It won't give up without a fight!
And the BEST part for me is that after I took it off (as per manual), I found out I could have done the work WITHOUT removing it!
