Default Transmission?

Ok so i've had the check VSC warning flashing for a couple weeks now and I finally brought it in to the dealer to take a look at it. From everything I have read on here to the symptoms I was showing it sounded like a no brainer for the carbon build up problem.

I get a call from the dealership today saying that they ran the tests for the engine misfire and it is misfiring however I am throwing transmission codes. They say that I need a new transmission and that they will address the carbon build up after I fix the transmission. They quoted me a transmission and water pump for 6.5k ..... needless to say I told them thanks but no thanks. If I am going to dump 6.5k into this car I'd probably be better served to get rid of it and find something else.

I guess my main question is should a transmission really be going bad in these cars..

I have a 2007 with roughly 100k miles on it.

I am pretty shocked with the situation .....any ideas would be much appreciated.

I'd tell them I will fix the transmission after they address the carbon build up.

I had an 07 is350. I never had an issue with my transmission. I sold it with 165k miles and it was still shifting like new. Tell them to fix the carbon buildup issue first.

Quick update...

Got the car back today. The codes they were seeing were P0751, P2714 &P2757.

The check engine light is off again so I am not sure if it cleared when they were reading the codes or not. It's pretty disappointing that their only solution was to replace the entire transmission.

I've attached the report..

Also, they say that apparently my car is not covered under the dashboard recall yet... my dash is literally falling apart. It's pathetic.

I guess I will try to call corporate on Monday to see what I can do...

If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Well, looks like they didn't charge you for the diagnosis; one small positive out of the negative here.

Google search for those codes and see what others did with them.

Take it to a different dealer. And if they say the same, tell them you will replace the transmission after they have done the carbon buildup repairs. Tell them to replace the water pump while they have the engine to pieces. Several folks have reported that their dealers replaced the water pump for free while the engine repairs were being done.
