DIY Paint Chip Repair - Starfire Pearl (PICS)
My hood had gotten a paint chip about the size of a pencil eraser. I believe this was done at the dealership as I never noticed it until I got it serviced but I have no way of proving this...anyyywaaayyys
I didn't want to spend the hundreds in insurance deductibles to repair this and I suspect it will happen again so I fixed this DYI - sort of.
Below are pictures of the before, during, and after. I am not done yet; I haven't put on the clear coat (077). I've only put on the base coat (077-BC).
My ask to anyone is whether I'll ever be able to get the hole filled to the same "depth" as the original paint. As you can see in the pictures, the original paint "lip" still shows. I've put on 3 thin layers of base coat already. I may try a fourth but not sure if the clear coat layers will add to that depth.
Also, an important note to anyone trying this; I put on a first and second layer of base coat. When I put on the third layer, I could hear the applicator pen crack through those layers. I pressed too hard. So I put on the third layer to compensate. It is tricky because to get paint to the tip, you must press hard enough on the applicator pen. I only used the brush once. For me the brush didn't evenly smooth everything so I didn't use the brush after the first coat.
Feedback welcomed!

Thanks for the reply. I would not dare touch my car with any kind of sanding material - lol. I will leave that to the pros.
I used both the 77 and 77-base paint from Sewell. The color looks good it is just that there's a "dip" where the new paint is. I just needed to fill it in more. I am going to leave it until spring and have a body shop fix it right for me.

You would have to get it shipped to you fairly quickly, but you could try langka "blob eliminator". It will smooth off the top of the blob/excess paint and not ruin the paint below. You will likely have to smooth, then retouch and repeat a couple of times.
Once the paint has set long enough, the stuff won't work anymore, but you should have several days before that happens.
I have used it, it does work, and it is not as easy to do as the sellers would have you believe

I spent a sunny day going over my car completely and filling every little rock chip multiple times over (trying to make it flush with the paint). Made a big difference when I was done. I would never go back to a paint pen.
