Sigh..
2007 IS250
This is the rear drivers side, passenger side is the same.. had the fronts changed at the same time but they are not as bad as this.

These are the "JDM" something rotors, supposed to be better than OEM.. this is 5 weeks in. No snow, no salt on the roads.
I need something better than this as it makes my car look like a POS.

The only rotors that don't rust off the top of my head are the carbon cermanic rotors. All other options will most likely have a coating of some sort that wears off and eventually will rust. I think you can get a set of cermanic rotors as cheap as $8k for a set of 4.
I do not know why your rotors have so much rust. I owned my IS350 for 8 years and it only had very faint rust.

OEM blanks and stoptech blanks both have protective E-coating on the hub.
Another solution:
Use very high temp (either black, silver or clear) 1300-2000F paint and paint the hub, and a bit near the hub where the pads don't touch. Do NOT paint it on the rotor surface where the pads touch. I have recently done this on the brand new stoptech rotors and they both look brand new even if I spray water on it after every car wash.

by the looks of it you live in a state that salts the road or live near the ocean. the rest of the underbody looks rusted as well. braking normally removes the rust on the rotors after a couple of hard stops. all cosmetic,

Car is garage kept. Again, the front rotors are no where near this bad... I do bring it down to the water (in a parking lot near the beach) and go out on the boat a lot but I think these rear JDM rotors I got are just garbage. What is this stoptech stuff you are talking about? I see there are pictures of some where this surface area is painted black what about those?
I guess this will have to be a winter project..

Yeah I suppose, I hardly ever drive this car in the snow or nasty weather (Have a truck that does that, which has rotors that ARE NOT rusted) The problem isn't where the brakes touch the pad, it's all the other junk.
The calipers were replaced 2 winters ago.

Im looking at an 07 350 that has rotors rusted just like this. Is it really a terrible thing? The car is in California and came from Texas - no salt on the roads. The car brakes amazingly but the rust is definitely there. Do they have to be replaced?

The rust on the hub and the area that the pads don't touch should not really affect performance as long as the rotors are not wrapped, or cracked. Make sure your rotors are thick enough to be safe. I generally change them every 50k-80k miles and I drive my cars very hard too lol.
