No sound coming from ML sub, all other speakers work
Hey guys, I replaced my ML sub about a month ago because I could no longer stand the rattling. It was working fine until about a week ago when it started distorting during bass hits from time to time and finally stopped working all together. I plugged in the old ML subwoofer which was at least known to make sound and that didn't work either. Sound still comes out of the other speakers, is it possible that the AMP has gone bad even if it's only the sub that has issues?
Thanks in advance!

It could have caused a problem with the amp. Assuming the voice coil got fried, theoretically, if it shorted the coil it could have created a path of less resistance. Less resistance in the sub circuit would have created a higher load on that channel of the amp (just like hooking up a 4 ohm speaker on a receiver only meant to handle a 8 Ohm load), and it could have taken out that channel of the amp. Those levinson amps are all on discreet channels, so if it took out the sub, it would probably leave the other channels unaffected. Just my 2 cents. I'd test it with any other speaker you have laying around to make sure.

Its the sub, this is a very well known issue with the IS, you can send it into these guys to get it fixed, runs a bit over 50 bucks. http://www.simplyspeakers.com/
But looking at the site now its not appearing to offer the same service I used or perhaps I might be missing it. For mine they had to run new wires over the spider, the ones that are in-bedded in the fabric appear to have shorted or physically failed.

Thanks guys, on second inspection it turns out to be the sub itself, i checked the connection coming to the amp with another speaker and it bumped. I measured the terminals on the sub with a multi meter and it reads 0 continuity. I'll probably contact simplyspeakers.com for repair or find an alternative to the stock sub. Fails way too often to be worth the money.

I just bought a 07 IS350 with the ML Nav and yep, sub was blown. From the service history it was replaced by the dealer before too and just 3 years ago.I just disconnected it for now and sounds much better without that nasty crackling rattle.
They are too expensive/unreliable to buy new with how many problems I've read about with them on the forum. Not sure if I should send it to be repaired or just put a box with an 8 ohm sub in the trunk and extend the wiring and be done with it. Opinions?
