Default 120K Maintenance results

When a local dealer wanted $1800 for the 120,000 mile maintenance on my 2008 is350, I decided to look at all the tasks involved and see what I could do myself. After a bit of research, I ordered most of the parts, completed some of the tasks, and had a local shop complete the remaining items. The final cost? $243

Here's the list of the items to be completed for the 120,000 mile maintenance from drivers.lexus.com that seem to match what's in the manual:

Replace engine oil and oil filter
Replace air conditioner filter (same as cabin filter)
Replace brake fluid
Replace engine air filter
Replace spark plugs
Measure thickness of brake pads, rotors, and rotor runout
Visually inspect brake pads and rotors
Inspect axle shaft boots
Inspect ball joints and dust covers
Inspect body
Inspect brake lines and hoses
Inspect drive belt(s)
Inspect engine coolant
Inspect exhaust pipes and mounting
Inspect fuel lines and connections, fuel tank band and fuel tank vapor vent system hoses
Inspect fuel tank cap gasket
Inspect rack and pinion steering assembly
Inspect rear differential oil
Inspect steering linkage and boots
Inspect transmission for signs of leakage

First, I ordered these parts:
- (6) Denso 3473 FK20HBR11 Spark Plug
- (1) Fram CA10347 Extra Guard Panel Air Filter
- (1) FRAM CF10285 Fresh Breeze Cabin Air Filter

Replacing the cabin filter was easy, but note some helpful discussions here make it clear one must follow the instructions in the manual to avoid causing damage. Likewise, a great discussion on replacing the spark plugs allowed me to do it in under three hours taking my time and being careful.

I let the shop do the oil change, replace the brake fluid, and verify all the inspections. The only thing found that a rear strut was leaking a bit, so I'll be replacing all four this spring.

Sounds like you did an awesome job. I learned all these things here with the help of other members and that's why it's so great to have a community that helps each other out. It upsets me that Lexus charges so much and really takes advantage of people. I'm curious, wasn't the coolant supposed to be changed at 100K? Anyway nice job....saves a bunch in your pocket.

^^^ I was about to ask the same question, I heard the coolant should be flushed around 100 or 120K miles, I'm guessing your water pump is still holding up

Dealer is fine if you tell them the notable items. I did my service with a synthetic oil change, transmission fluid change, brake fluid change, and spark plugs all at a dealer for $850 including labor. I replaced my own filters, costed $80 in parts. Not sure if they inspected anything tho.

Good point about the coolant. The previous owner had the coolant and water pump replaced at about 105,000 miles.
