Default question about HID and LED headlights

Hey guys,

long time since i posted here.
i currently drive a 2006 is250 AWD, my right passenger side headlight has stopped working, it probably has a leak since there's water condensation inside the glass.

my car uses the HID XEON headlights and i was doing research for the new LED lights, and apparently my car needs to be factory halogen for them to properly install?

can i install the aftermarket LED headlights on my current XEON HID car? XEON HID OEM is so expensive and i can buy a pair for LEDs headlights which is way more cost effective.

if anyone can help me out with a solution to which LED headlights can fit on my car it would be appreciated.

thanks!

If you're referring to LED bulbs, I would probably stick with OEM HID. Plus I'm not so sure that there are LED bulbs that's a direct swap to HIDs or any type of OEM HIDs for that matter.

I have OE halogen on my IS350. I've posted my feedback on LED low beam bulbs on the stickies section and it wasn't the best experience I had. Although the unnecessary need for bulky ballasts made wiring easy and clean as all the wiring harness can easily be tucked inside the headlight. Bottom line is HIDs light output is far more superior to LEDs. High end autos with LED headlights are engineered and designed way different than our conventional designed headlights.

Just my opinion. If there is something available to fit OE HIDs, I say try it out and be the judge of it yourself. I would imagine, however, that aftermkt manufacturers are still developing ways to design LEDs that will perform just as good or better than HIDs.

no i meant the actual whole housing of the headlight.

an OEM HID headlight costs over 1000$ and i don't even care about the AFS

i just want to fix my broken headlight.

is there a way to retrofit LED headlight units into my car? i've been looking at all the LED headlight kits and all of them say they only fit factory halogen IS 250 models.

is there a way to install LED headlight units if my car is factory with XEON HIDS?

i can see LED kits on ebay for 4-500$ a pair

whereas HID XEON OEM headlights are selling for over 2000$ a pair...

i'm not knowledgable enough to remove the headlight myself to re seal the headlight. my mechanic told me i need to get a brand new headlight..

i know it can be fixed from reading these forms without buying a new one, i just need some help in the right direction!

thanks again!

The reason they said they're only for halogen is because you'll have an AFS light on your dash from running a non AFS equipped light. You can put any of those ebay kits on your car. Whether the lights will last is questionable and the protrusion is pretty ugly. If you pay someone to do it and it fails you'll still be out install fee. Do it right the first time.

If you're trying to save money on your car the best thing you can do is to start learning how to fix things. All the information is on the internet... you have no excuses.
