Question Gasket installed incorrectly after cam recall is350?

I need opinion of people who had the cam recall done on their IS350. I don't remember seeing this gasket before the recall. It looks like it wasn't installed correctly because it now sticks out and you can see the gasket gold ring. It looks like its there for a bolt to align with it or go into it. Please give me your thoughts before I take it to the dealer and they tell me its no big deal even though it doesn't look like it was correctly installed.

Though I cannot 100% confirm, but ever since I heard about the fuel pressure gasket recall and had looked at the high-pressure fuel pump there, I've not seen that same gasket on my '06 IS350. Perhaps that gasket is the "fix" to the open fuel pressure gasket recall? Hmmmmmm.

I think that is just an MLS gasket. MLS gaskets are made up of multiple layers and they are held together by a rivet (which is what you see there). The rivets are placed in a spot off to the side where the mating surfaces won't hit it as it won't allow for the surfaces to clamp down with the rivet between them. I've only seen this style gasket used for heads though, and in your case it looks like the brass rivet there is between the mating surfaces (might be the angle from the pic though) What component is this? I'll take a look at my '06 350 once it is back from the body shop (Rear ended a few days ago) on Monday. It has had the recall for the Cam Gear done a while back before I got the car.

I think mine is the same. Had a engine rebuilt and the tech replaced my cam gears while at it. I noticed a gasket sticking out too but nothing has ever happened so I guess it must be like that.

Just checked mine; I do not have a portion of a gasket sticking out. I HAVE had the cam gear recall performed.

It is the correct gasket. That is how it looks.

^Correct aftermarket replacement gasket or OEM? As I mentioned, my '06 IS350 doesn't have a visible portion of the gasket showing like that; I even removed the engine cover yesterday to look on the "inside" around that thing, and still none of it shows.

I've had the recall done as well, and I was looking around my engine since I am having stalling issues.

My gasket does NOT look like that.

I just checked and my 350 and the gasket under the high pressure fuel pump does NOT look like that. I would bring it back as soon as possible to repair.

What would be the long term affect if left as is?

^I would question the installer if the gasket was OEM or not; if aftermarket, which it seems to be, I'd ask the installer why it waas used instead of an OEM one.

It is the correct, OEM gasket, however it was installed upside down.

This is the gasket:

It was definitely installed upside down, but I don't know if that would affect anything. Best case, it's fine, medium case it leaks a bit of oil, worst case it leaks a lot of oil and/or you don't get full fuel pressure because of additional space to the camshaft.

Jeff

^Well that's good to know, and now makes total sense by looking at those pics! By the look of the two mating surfaces, they're both flat. I'd assume that if the proper torque was used the gasket being upside down in this case will be fine.
