Default 3IS owner with question for 2IS owners

Hey 2IS guys, im from the 3IS section and pretty much wanted to get some feedback from you guys on something. I have a 350fsport which I bought not leased close to a year ago. my question is for those of you who drive your cars hard sometimes, and im talking about people with higher milege on the cars do you have any issues? the reason I am asking is because I do tend to baby the car more than one normally should because I did buy and I expect to keep it for 5-8 years, I don't want any issues mechanical etc. but I also want to enjoy that powerful 350 engine from time to time. lately I am experiencing vibration in the steering wheel when the car is stopped and in gear and this started only a couple days after doing some spirited pulls with a friend who has a 335i.
-so basically what I want to know is how are your cars holding up? even with the occasional spirited driving? any engine problems etc?

-haven't had a chance to get my car checked, I just hope its nothing serious since this only happens when the car is in gear. when I park there is no vibration.

thanks for the feedback!

My 350 just turned 7 years old. Only 50,000 miles though. I floor it every chance I get and have had no problems at all. Have fun. These engines are very well built.

I have had my car for 8 years, but I only have 34k miles. I do not baby it in terms of revving. I redline it all the time.

I've had my IS350 for 8 years and I drive mine hard as a daily driver on both the streets and track.

Even with all the mods I've done over the years which would test the engineering durability of the original design, I've had no mechanical or electrical issues with my vehicle.

I WOT several time during my daily drive. Baby the car for fuel efficiency of your on long drives but makes no sense not to push the car a little

For cars, the same "If you dont use it, you lose it" principal counts. At work we have a facility speed limit of 20mph so our trucks never get passed 3-4th gear. We had one truck that never left the facility till recently and wont shift over 4th gear and maxes out at 55mph on the highway

I have an 07 is350 with 160k miles. Runs and drives awesome. Never did anything but for regualr maintenance like oil changes, one time spark plugs replacement @ 100k miles, cabin and air filter replacement. As for the steering vibrations at a stop, I believe the ecu trying to lean out the fuel for a lower idle or maybe your alternator is starting to fail.

My 2006 IS350 has 116k miles and still driving like new. There is an oil leak from the timing chain cover which is somewhat common for these engines. Just regular maintenance other than that.

lately I am experiencing vibration in the steering wheel when the car is stopped and in gear and this started only a couple days after doing some spirited pulls with a friend who has a 335i.
Maybe your car picked up some bad habits from the 335i

What are you idling at when you feel the "vibration"? Sometimes my idle drops to 600rpm or below and I feel it running a bit rougher than it does at, say 700 rpm. I haven't owned my 2007 long enough to say that any lack of problems are in spite of my occasional spirited driving, but I have reason to believe the previous owner(s) didn't baby the car either, though I don't think they abused it, or I wouldn't have bought it. And it really runs pretty well.

Thank you for the responses guys! definitely put my mind at ease a little. i definitely do not redline my car frequently, maybe 3 or 4 times for the month LOL. I only began to have concerns after the vibration in the steering wheel started because i never noticed it before.

I didn't drive the car for the day but if i remember correctly i am idling at 5-600rpm i think. is there any ideas why this would be occurring?

I don't really know why it would be idling too low. At idle I think around 700 rpm is normal, and 750 if you turn on ac or heater or some such. Since you are under warranty (or so I assume), might be worth just taking it to the dealership.
