Good to hear!
My battery was bubbling by the time I replaced it.

Most ppl think Im nuts when I suggest to check battery when smelling fart/sulfur smell on acceleration.

LoL so it is the BATTERY that FARTEDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next time when anyone in an IS with group of people inside, and all of a sudden smell something bad, the driver should immediately accelerates fast and then blame it on the battery that farts
To back up the claim, give them the link to this thread. It wasn't me, it is the BATTERY

good i found this thread.

horrible smell. if i accelerate hard it smells worse.....uggh!

i'm almost sure my battery is about dead too, hard starts, etc.

oh, check engine light is on.

will get a battery next week, hope it lasts that long.

if that doesn't fix it, i guess i have to take it in to the dealership.

Ok, so it's not the battery. Still getting the smell under medium to hard acceleration. A buddy of mine suggesting getting new headers? My car knowledge is very limited, but he said that would be cheaper than cat converter. He also suggested unclogging some sort of pipe that ran down from the manifold to the catalytic converter? Not sure what he meant because like I said, I don't know cars much. Any clarification is appreciated

On a side note, the brace that goes over my battery to hold it in place is missing, would that matter or contribute to the smell? Battery doesn't seem to move alot, just missing that top bracket

^You will want to have that battery bracket; it's a safety issue.

Your buddy is sort of correct, because if you no longer have the primary cats there that are contributing to this issue are no longer there, the exhaust will simply free-flow and have no catalyst to work its magic. But in the end, you still have a secondary set of cats, which could also be helping to the odor issue.

By the way, I smell the sulfur odor just about daily, because I cannot stay away from the "go-pedal". Oh, and my new battery doesn't fart. LOL!

just to follow up on this thread, it was definitely my battery that caused to the horrible, horrible smell. when my battery finally died, i got a jump start and drove directly to autozone. when i arrived and raised the hook, the battery was smoking; you could see the smoke and steam coming off the battery. you could smell how awful exactly as i smelled everyday as it was going dead, just like a dead animal. autozone smelled it as well, saw the battery dying a horrible death, and they replaced my battery under warranty and as soon as i drove away, no more smell. that awful ridiculous odor was gone and i honestly felt like i was driving a decent car again.

but my check engine light for cats is still on and now i can smell those. but this is a different smell. and it's very slight. and it's not always present. and i only smell it inside my garage, after i get home. not up and down the freeway all day long b.s. i can tolerate this smell....

Hey guys, so the smell is getting worse, only difference now is that even moderate acceleration causes the smell. I've been going thru different brands of gasoline and Texaco seems to be the least offensive smelling one. I'm bringing my car to my mechanic this weekend. He claims to have some sort of cleaner that will unclog the catalytic converters, charging my about $100 to do it. He's been my mechanic for over twenty years and I honestly think he's trying to help. I'm not sure what the name of the chemical he'll be using, but I'll follow up when it's finished. Has anyone ever heard of this "unclogger".
