So this has happened twice now. All lights radio air etc all come on but when I depress the brake pedal it doesn't start. It takes multiple tries turning the car on and off and finally it will start. Not like a dead battery start like i'm trying to get it to turn over. Any recommendations? I wouldn't think the key fob battery was dying because wouldn't I get a key not detected notification? Any info would help before I get stranded and have to tow this to the dealer lol. Thanks

When my fob battery was dying, the diagnostic screen wouldn't always tell me that it wasnt being detected. Are you holding the key up and touching the start button? If not, do so.

That doesn't sound like the key fob. Since the radio/air are coming on, the key obviously is being detected.

What exactly happens when you press "Start"?

If the car doesn't crank at all, make sure that you are pushing the brake pedal down far enough that the indicator light on the start button turns green. If it is amber, the car won't crank.

If the car cranks but doesn't start, it could be a weak battery (car, not fob) or other issue that requires further troubleshooting.

also sounds like it could be a possible starter issue. Could be getting stuck, would account for the on off multiple times before cranking. How many miles are on your car?

I'm going to try and replace the battery first. I've never had a starter issue like that but who knows. I recently dropped my keys hard on the cement just the other day and this started happening. Wondering maybe I jostled some things. Nothing happens when I hit the start button no cranking nothing. Everything else comes on like normal if you were to hit the button once.

Holding the keys up to the start button I assume would eliminate the possibility of it being the Key Fob battery. At that point even with a dead FOB it should start right up since it uses a passive RFID.

I do not know if you are still having this issue or not but here is a possibility. There is a TSB for the 06 and some of the 07's ( there is a VIN number cutoff but I am at the barber shop and do not have the paperwork with me) where they came from the factory with flaky start push button switches and Toyota redesigned the switch to correct the problem. My car was built in August 07 as an 07 model and did fall under the TSB. I did have intermittent start problems with my car and the switch was replaced with the redesigned one and I have had no problems since.

I went back and found the TSB. It is L-SB-0161-08 dated 11-11-2008 for the no start condition in some of the IS models. If you search the internet for this you will find it and it will tell you the cutoff for the VIN numbers based on the car and where it was manufactured. The replacement part number for the switch is 89611-30020. As I was trying to say in an earlier post my car was built in August 06 as an 07 model and did fall in this VIN number range. I was having intermittent starting issues with my car and the dealership replaced the switch with the new part number. I have had no issues since that time.
