Default 2007 IS250 AWD (142 miles) for 10k, worth it ?

Hi Guys,

I am currency driving GS300, which I got myself not too long ago. Right now I am looking for a is250 for my wife.

I found 2007 Lexus IS250 AWD from the official Lexus dealer and the asking price is 10k
The car has 240k (killometer) or 142k (milles)
The car is in great shape for its age, the only concerns in the reliability of the motor and transmission at this millage

They are asking for it $10k.

Its a 2.5 L model, are they good (I want to purchase a reliable vehicle, that will run) ?
Is the price high for the millage ?

What problem to expect with that millage ?

Thank you in advance,
this forum helped me pick a GS I drive now and love a lot!

Did you have the dealership pull the previous maintenance history? If properly maintained, it just might be worth it.

The car is from Lease, was maintained by Lexus dealer.
I dont know how long these 2.5l motors and transmissions last. Thats the problem.

It comes Certified as they say.
I hope it will run for another 3 year without issues until 280-300k (killometers).
Then I am thinking of selling it for maybe 5.5k - 6k max, in 2017 ( 2k per year depresiation in value)

What do you guys think, worth a shot?

The main issues with the IS250 is the carbon build up issue. Search on here for people's issues. There are members in here with over 250K miles on the car, so they last.

I do read that Carbon build up is very common.
Is it expensive to fix ?
Is it a RECALL problem ,or Normal to these models ?
How often it has to be done ?

P.S. I will check with the dealer whether the engine was cleaned.

Many thanks!!!

8 year old car with 142,000 miles and they say it is "Certified"? Ask them what that means - it's not a CPO car. The carbon build up is a 9 year, unlimited mile warranty. After that you're on your own (and it's a VERY expensive repair).

"Certified" by whom? Not Lexus corporate with that kind of mileage and age.

That said, it's a Lexus. It could definitely go many more miles. I'd pull the trigger.

I will inquire what is covered under their "Certified" tag.

Carbon build-up is definitely something I am actually worried about, especially after reading pages through the forum.
