Default Weird comment about Hankook Ventus V12 from a reputable tire center

So I called a local reputable tire center to get pricing on Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 in 265/30/19 (to go on a 19x10 wheel - pretty much standard around here). The rep on the phone looked it up and told me that that particular tire and the size I asked about cannot withstand the weight of an IS250. He suggested I go to 275/30/19 if I want to be safe. What is that about? Does anyone know anything about that?

All tires have load ratings. "Reputable tire centers" use those ratings along with what vehicle manufacturers reccomend, along with their own experience to decide which tires they will put on which vehicles. Your "reputable tire center" didn't get a good reputation by putting tires on cars that are near the load ratings. Chances are you will be fine, but the seller isn't willing to gamble his reputation on that chance.

I run V12's on my car consistently and have never had an issue. I wore my last ones down to where the rubber was splitting from the wire and they held together very very well. Best tire for the price IMO.

Depending on model and year the 2IS comes with various load ratings ranging from 88 to 95.

That size of Ventus V12 has a 93 load rating, which is more than enough for the IS.

FYI: tirerack is running close out pricing on Hankook V12 Evo's because theyre apparently being replaced with the Evo2's. (They were yesterday at least, havent checked today)

I just picked up a pair yesterday to replace my camber worn rears.

Yeah, Discount Tire told me the same thing when I wanted them to install 225/35/18 BFG KDWs onto my stock front wheels. They have an "87" load rating, which is lower than factory, but fine when actually factoring in the real weight of the car/fuel/passengers. Mom-and-Pop tire shop installed them without question.

Yeah, they've got company guidelines to abide by; so I don't take it personally. They just don't want to be at the center of a lawsuit caused by incorrect tires being put onto a car is all.
