Default Just became IS350 owners!

I feel like I almost need to reintroduce myself as it's been nearly 3 years since my last log-on

I had received some help and bought some parts for my wife's 1994 SC 300 through this excellent forum back then.

Well, my wife decided she wanted to upgrade to a newer Lexus and get into a sedan this time. Since I'm a hot rodder (and Chevy guy, sorry). I wanted to make sure that again she got a RWD model and one that has some beans under the hood. The IS350 fit that description and our budget, so Saturday we pulled the trigger and purchased a 2009 at Momentum BMW in Houston. The car is a one-owner and the service history revealed it had all services performed at West Side Lexus in Houston, so it looked like a solid car that had been owned by someone who cared for it properly.

We got the car home to Austin on Saturday and on Sunday (yesterday) I hit the drag strip with it! Not a bad effort to be at the track less than 24 hours from purchase.

Air was terrible and it still had the "free tank of gas" from the dealer in it, which I'm sure was 87 octane. However, it still ran a best of 13.91 @ 99.7 MPH.

So far it seems like a great car. I'll hit up the performance section since I made the mistake of racing it. I should be saving my pennies for all the mods I'm doing to my own cars, but you know how the addiction goes... I want to run a little quicker and faster next time at the track so I'll be looking into air intakes and maybe one or two other little mods - which I don't even know what those should be yet since I'm a Chevy guy - to get some bang for the buck.

Welcome to the 2IS section and congrats on your purchase. Nice work taking it to the track so quick and getting a baseline. Just FYI the 2nd gen is somewhat limited in performance upgrades due to the inability to tune the ECU. The options are and air intake, headers, mid pipe, exhaust. Some have installed NOS and superchargers (limited to roughly 50HP for about 5K). Doesn't sound like you want to get too wild but that's the nuts and bolts of it. Here is a link with common questions. Enjoy the new ride. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...iy-thread.html

Thank-you! I just spent about the last hour reading.

Yes, I'll just be looking to perform one or two simple mods to her car. I have a stable of my own that I am constantly modding, racing, and repairing, so I don't need another money pit or a car that requires as much attention as some of my others. However, like all true car guys, I can't resist a tweak or two...

Did the car come with an engine cover, or did you remove it for the track? I remove my while at the track.

Welcome and enjoy your stay!

Yes sir. It came with a cover. Like you, I pulled it off at the track thinking the motor might cool off a tiny bit more between runs.

Get a CAI and an exhaust, also when going to the track remove your covers and take everything out of the trunk and have around a quarter of a tank of gas. A friend of mine did 13.2 doing all that I listed.

Welcome Back! I was in a similar boat a few weeks ago. I hadn't been an active CL member since 2008. Feels good to be back. Congrats on the car!

Thanks guys. Yes, I can see getting a CAI for it. It is my wife's car, but I can't leave it completely alone.

She's on a business trip to Fort Worth so guess which car I took to the office today.
