Default Low Engine Oil

Last night the Low Engine Oil flashed red on my dash then went away. I checked it this morning and sure enough my oil was down to the low level indicator. Now ive never monitored my oil level but of course now im going to start. Its been about 3200 miles since my last oil change and I had to put in around 2qts to bring it up to the full line. The car is an 07 250 with 65k. Is this type of oil consumption normal for a car with this milage? I checked underneath the car the best I could and I do not see any leaking.

Correct me if I'm wrong (because I don't own an IS250), but why did it take 2qts to take the oil level from the "low" level on the dip stick to the "high" level? It only takes <a qt on my IS350. Seems to me the oil level was lower than what you had thought.

Bring it to you local dealer and let them mark the dip stick. Then they will recheck it in about 1200-1500 miles to see if the level won't down. There's a tsb for this issue where the pistons need to be replaced.

The manual says it takes 1.6qts to get from the low line to full line. So yea maybe it was just below the low line being that i used 2qts. Its also says consuming 1.1qts of oil every 600miles is normal. So i dont know what the dealer is going to do for me. I got 3200 miles out of 2 qts.

Some cars even the same model burns oil more than others. Too many factors to consider. Btw are you using synthetic or dino or blend?

Im just going to monitor my levels for now. Ill call the dealer and see what they say. I dont really want to pay if they charge to mark my dipstick but we'll see. If I dont like there answer ill just call corporate and complain.

if there is a TSB related to oil consumption, then I doubt they will charge you for it. otherwise you can mark and monitor it yourself.

Is the TSB for only 250's or is this 350's too? I am burning my Royal Purple (1qt+ per month) though I do have the PWR button selected and kinda drive with a heavy foot.

Despite what the comment from the owner's manual says, buring a qt of oil in 3k (lead alone an entire 7k oil) change is NOT normal. If not leaking oil, then it is burning it; whether in the combusion chamber or in the exhaust, either way it's not good nor normal.

I've recently received the low engine oil level as well, and it goes away quickly. It seems to occur more on hills. I'm just closing in on 5,000 miles since the last oil change. The same issue happened last time I neared 5,000 miles. But it only happened once. It happens more often now though. I'm going in this Saturday and I'm going to mention it again. I'm closing in on 126,000 miles on an '06 350.

I drop 1/2 a quart in between 5K oil changes.
