because someone recommends something doesnt necessarily mean its the right thing to do. BUT in this instance, after i put the octane booster in, the car ran so smooth i was absolutely shocked how a few octane can make such a difference. i will 100% be using 93 from now on.

i screwed that one up!!

REALLY? So then why don't you ignore the car manufacturers maintenance schedule since you know better? In fact, throw your manual away...

we can be smart asses all we want but the fact is, they recommend changing the oil every 3000 miles but you really wanna argue doing it 500 miles after will REALLY affect the car in a negative light? i dont.

regardless, i realized and admit i was wrong about the gas, lets start an argument online about it.

Who recommends changing oil every 3,000 miles other than the oil-changing shops? The recommendation from the manual is 5,000 miles. Will it hurt if you change the oil every 5,500 miles? I'm 100% sure it won't. But the gas and oil are for different purposes that I assume Lexus has different tolerances for them being out of recommended range before having negative effect on the car. Like others have already said, it's been argue to death, but the conclusion (I got) is that most likely you can run regular without damage but lower performance and smoothness.

The IS has a compression ratio of 12 to 1, very high, so it takes advantage of the higher octane.
For how long do you use ethanol in your car? And how many miles do you drive annually? I'm asking because there is phobias of ethanol, because it is hygroscopic and may damage metal parts of fuel system. And what is the difference between mileage on premium gas and ethanol on your regular trips? Thank you!
