Hey everyone,

I have a set of 18" TSW rims on my car, but the tires that came with them are 45 series and rubbing. I am trying to keep this on a budget and found a set of near new Bridgestone Potenza RE050A runflat tires for sale at a good price.

My first question is, how bad are run flats? I hear some people say they are fine and others say they are horrible. My current tires are Federal 595, which are pretty cheap, how would they compare? Any major reason not to put run flats on and wait for a different set of tires to pop up on Craigslist?

I also do not have a spare or jack in the car, the custom amp and subs have replaced them.So that would be one more beneficial reason to get run flats.

My next question is that the rear tires are 255/35/18, which is an inch smaller than the stock tire size, but matches the front tire diameter better. I have heard that this can cause issues with traction control and stuff, but how big of an issue is it really?

In your case, the run flats might be a lifesaver.

I ran 255/35/18 BFG KDW IIs in the rear and had no issues.

Are you on stock suspension? The smaller sidewall of tires on stock suspension will make the 4x4 status even greater.

Nope, on H&R springs.

With the current 245/45/18, I can't even squeeze a finger in above the rear tires.

Has anyone actually had any experience with run flats? I have read a lot of bad things, but wonder if that's just really picky people.

for runflats - you just need to buy a brand new tire everytime you get a nail....

Runflats are much heavier a big issue for a lot of people. Furthermore, I would stick with stock tire sizes as you dont want your rolling diamter to change more than 3% (i havent done that math of the difference and it could be within that spec). Lexus spent a lot of time determining a tire size that is best for our cars. I would stick with those sizes if you are on stock wheels. Otherwise, its a whole new ball game.
