Default 2012 headlights in a 2010 is250

Ok guys I know this has been beaten to death but I tried following all the instructions in the atleast 10 threads I found be still can't get my headlights to work right. My friend who works at a Lexus dealership sourced the headlights for me and parts I need. I spent around 5 hours today and couldn't get this to work.

I have everything working but the led strip. What I tried to do is basically I cut the green wire and then the black/white wire and connected the green one to the black/white one and vice versa and basically my turn signal stopped working and my led strip didn't work either. So my question is what do I have to do to my wiring to get the led strip to work. I have a 2010 with drl right now disabled.

Here is what I tried to do that didn't work :

Put it in "P" drive to the dealership, buy a 2011+, turn on the car... BAM led strip will work every time.

Lol I'm going to be trading in the car later this year but I got a good deal on these so put then in.

I did forget to mention one thing. Then I start the car with headlights of the LEDs will flash 3 times. But they will not work otherwise. So it does seen like they get power. My friend at Lexus is going to try to turn on the drl again Tom and see what happens but I'm still open for suggestions on how to wire these if that doesn't work.

Some things to know... If you buy a pre-made kit, you don't have to deal with any of this stuff...

The only thing you have to do is swap the Flasher Relay cube, which sits in the space above the Brake & Gas pedal under the dash.

If you have an IS with AFS, you will indeed get a flashing AFS indicator light.. If you have an IS with just the Halogen headlights, you will not have a flashing AFS indicator.

So far the only known way to stop the blinking AFS light, is to crack open the cluster and block the light that passes through that area with something Black.

Also, the bumper brackets that screw into the bottom of the headlights, will need slight modifications to be attached to the new MY2011 lights.. Basically dremeling some of it off that sits over the LED wire dome cap on the underside of the housings.
But still, only 2 screws will line up after that.

I tried the new step mentioned, of only swapping the GREEN wire location, that DID NOT work on my 2008 IS-F.

So I went with what "thinktwice" originally did..
I snipped the thinner solid red wire, then tapped it into the Black & White wire underneath it..
Then I changed the pin location of the Green Wire to the empty spot... Done.!!

I also tested the Solid Black wire and Solid Green wire to confirm the differences between the 50% & 100% brightness of the LED strip.
I went with 100% power.

Also, the new Flasher relay needed is indeed Lexus / Toyota Part # 81980-06020
That takes all of about 5 minutes to find unplug & replug the new unit.

I only got pics of the Flasher swap so far.. (I was in a rush)

I will try to update this post in the near future with how the wiring looks before and after the slight modification done to the primary male plug connector on the new headlight.

Thanks for all input in this thread..!!

Regards,

~ Joe Z

So basically I take the green wire that's hanging there and put it in empty location next to the black/white one I also cut before. Then I tap the red wire above the black/white wire to the black/white wire and it all works. Correct ?

Sounds right.... So the Red, Green & Black are for the LED strip...

Disconnecting & T-Tapping the soild Red wire to the Black and white is step one...

Repin - Moving the location of the Green Wire 100% LED Power to the empty spot is step two.. (might be hard to do if you killed the slide in / male pin)

Also, I'm assuming you haven't hacked up the rest of the wiring too badly..

I fixed the green one I messed up and black/white one in the 1 headlight so that it's like stock again. I just need to do the above and hopefully it'll all work. I'll post a pic tonight if it all does.

Thank you joe-z. What I ended up doing is taking the green out and placing it next to the black/ white one. Then I tried on the one headlight tapping the red to the black/white one but the taps I had were crappy and didn't complete the circuit. So I said screw it and instead just grounded the wire to a spot on the body. Now it's also pretty easy to undo one day. The other one I did the same.

So for the future what u can simply do swap the green one to the empty spot next to the black/white wire and then take the solid red wire above it, cut it and ground that to somewhere on the body. Pretty simple in the end.

Do you have a 2012 Canadian Spec ?? That came with out HIDs

Which bulb remains ON ?

This may be related to Canada spec default to DRL - ON

This is a setting only changeable with Techstream..

Yes, canadian spec with the default DRL.
The highbeam bulb stays on with the LED strip.
I tried with Techstream, but it seems like it doesn't give us canadian's a option to disable the DRL/highbeam bulb.
Therefore as of now, my highbeam is my projector HID

Canadian cars cannot disable DRL. I rewired mine with relays to only connect the ground to the high beam bulb when the low beam is on.

My led strip is on, along with the DRL/Highbeam bulb.
I'm seeing if theres a way to just repin the highbeam/drl bulb to only work in highbeam mode. Since my drl is already the led strip + the highbeam bulb. If that makes any senses

Yeah, that makes sense, I rewired mine with relays to only connect the ground to the high beam bulb when the low beam is on. That is the best/easiest way to do it.

This is how I have mine wired, it very closely mimics how the factory 2011-2015 2IS with LED DRL came from the factory, but if you're just looking to disable the Canada-spec halogen PWM DRL on the high beam, look at the relay that has been added on the RH side near the high beam bulb.

To go from this:
