Default Serpentine Belt NOT covered under warrenty?

Just got the phone call from the dealership, my 2011 Lexus IS350's serpentine belt is no good and it is NOT covered under warranty.

Is this true?

I think that's true, because its considered a wear and tear item.

Probably lol. But its really easy to do. You can do it yourself with 14mm socket, breaker bar, and 15 minutes of your time.

^He is right! You ONLY need those tools, and might even be able to get away without the breaker bar too (if you're creative).

$120 and some change for everything at the dealership...
$98 at an indie shop....decisions...decision...

but right now I'm leaning towards dealership just because they already have my car there I'm still under warranty and want to keep a "relationship" with them until it runs out. Also, I'm kinda abusing the 2014 IS250 they gave me as a loaner right now. I kinda like it. I think.

Is this pretty normal for a s. belt to go bad at around 35K miles though? Next time I hear the same noise, I'll do it myself.

That's very weird to go bad so early. I think.

Last time same thing happened, they said it was the alternator, which they replaced under warranty and it stop the noise...until now.

The serpentine belt is covered under warranty, at least in Canada, however it is covered under the comprehensive (4 years / 80,000km) not the powertrain warranty. I can't speak with complete certainty on Lexus USA policies.

Just got the call: it's the belt Tensioner, which is under warranty. But they will replace the belt too for free. Weird but I'm not complaining.

The tensioner going bad will ruin the belt is why they will cover the belt.

Now I'm wondering how much of a damage the bad tensioner did to the rest of the engine. As I said before, they thought the culprit was the alternator last time I complained about the same noise, which I thought was odd but it did get rid of the noise...until now.

Looking like your dealer is not doing due diligence in trouble shooting. Not a good sign. What else do they NOT know? Any other Lex dealer near you?

You would be the first I've read about having a bad tensioner; but that would make sense causing the belt to pre-maturely wear.
