Just Purchased 2006 IS350 with 138,000 Miles. What Oil Would you Suggest?
Hello Everyone,
I just purchased a great looking and great running 2006 IS350 with 138,000 miles on it. I am curious what any of you would suggest as far as the Oil I should use going forward. I am not sure what was used previously, so I would be starting the Oil changes at 138,000 miles.
I am curious about the type of Oil you would suggest and the weight like 5W20 or 5W30? Many of the Forums suggest Castrol Edge Synthetic. What are your thoughts?
Any suggestions would be Greatly Appreciated.
Thank You,
Kirk

you should already know this thread is going to be all opinions on what oil people think is best. there really is no clear cut "best". its all subjective. whatever works for you run with it.
me personally i run eneos 0w-20 synthetic. ive run it in all my last 5 cars(tried all different weights as well) with no issues and all but 1 had over 150k miles. so find what works for you and go with that

And just like #%@hole, everyone has their own opinions on oil. Use whatever is most convenient to get. Go with manufacturer's recommended weight. Change your oil on mileage and/or time; i change my every 5k. I clocked over a millions miles (with several cars went over 200k miles) and never have any problem (YET

Regular Castrol Gtx (white) is good enough. If you plan to run more then 5000miles in a 6 month period then I suggest synthetic like Castrol syntec (black container). Just about any synthetic should last well over 5,000 miles for this car. Start with 5-30 and go from there if needed. check oil every 1000 miles and monitor oil consumption.
FYI, you don't need to go crazy with high end oil and changing the oil sooner then manufacture recommendations because this engine wears very little and is gentle on the oil.

Any brand synthetic oil will be fine. They are tested and regulated by the government to meet regulations just like gasoline. For the oil viscosity, I would choose either 5w-20 or 5w-30.
