For spark plug, I buy the parts from Sewell and then have independent shop do it for $80. Not sure about water pump but how many miles do we need to replace this?? I thought we only need to replace coolant and not the whole water pump system.

The water pump has been known to have premature failure. There is not set time to replace the water pump, but you will know when its time as it will start making a grinding noise or see leaking coolant under the water pump.
Here's one of many threads regarding the water pump:

It's sealed like a manual transmission in that it doesn't have a dipstick... I saw the procedure on how to change the fluid and it is just like changing the fluid on a manual transmission. There is a drain plug on the bottom and a fill plug on the side. You drain and fill the tranny and then warm up the transmission. You need a computer to see the transmission temp. Once the tranny is warmed up, you remove the fill plug and check the level. The level should be to the point where it is about to come out of the fill plug. You should still change "lifetime" fluid every 100K if driven normally or 60K if driven hard. I change mine every 60K because $125 for a fluid change is a lot less than $3k+ for a new transmission.

I asked the part department the water pump is $275 plus tax and $108 spark plug plus tax. The dealer said my alternator is going bad, and my brother is a mechanic he said it's hardly to know that alternator is going bad at 61 k miles. It normally should last over 100k miles .My car never have any problem with starting engine.By the way, my car got windshield replaced several months before. The shop was recommended by the same service advisor for me right now.. I got OEM glass but after the replacement the wind noise is occur. I understand with many people here got them replace has wind noise. My problem is my car got dashboard rattle noise that dealer fixed years before and they were good until the windshield got replaced and the rattle come back.. I called the owner of the auto glass he said he will come to my house and check it but the winter time was cold so he told me to wait .. I talked to the service advisor about the problem he told me he will call the guy installed my windshield come to the dealer to check it out.. Wells I dont think they can do anything but have the dealer take it apart and fix it. I wasnt smart enough to let it replace at dealership instead at my house.but the shop is recommend by the advisor and he told me lexus dont replace windshield they had to have that shop do it for them.

Default Do IS350's have this same Carbpon Buildup Issue Also?

Hey Guys (and Girls),

I just bought a really nice used 2006 IS350 with 135,000 miles on it. I have been reading these Forums about the Carbon Buildup on the IS250's and how Lexus has extended the warranty to 9 Years and unlimited mileage.

Do the 2006 IS350's have the same Carbon Buildup issues with them too? If so, I should take mine to the Lexus dealership and get it checked out asap.

Your Thoughts or Suggestions?

Thank You All,
Kirk

IS350 did not have carbon issue.. You might check all the recall on the IS350 valve spring recall .

Do you guys know the cold start rattle noise when start up is TSB cover under warranty or can it be under RECALL issue?? I also try to have dealer change transmission fluid but they said it was seal and they won't do it.

I just have to ask crazy question . My car is in the shop for the engine taking apart to repair . I also pay to replace water pump and spark plugs as well. They are still working fine but I know soon they have to replace. How do I know if the dealer replace my water pump and spark plugs. Thanks

One thing to verify is go to drivers.lexus.com , whatever they do should be recorded there. Generally, if you do it in Lexus dealership, they will give you a bill or some kind of paperwork summary at the end. You can trust them on this because generally they are pretty good.

If you still cannot trust that, ask them for the old parts (water pump, spark plugs) and they are supposed to let you see it and even give them back to you.

For reals, i think you over-worrying. Lexus services are generally good in regard to do what they told you. They are monitored by the Lexus Corp too. You can call Lexus Corp customer satisfaction to confirm surely 100% they did what they say as the last resort but i think this is overkill lol.

If you can afford the additional parts/labor, DEFINITELY do the spark plugs. If you have no signs of any leaks from the pump OR odd grinding/"whirring" noises from the front engine area, then your pump is probably fine...for now.
