Default Has anyone repaired a rear differential leak on their IS 250 RWD?

I think I have a rear diff leak on my 06 IS 250 RWD. A week ago, I noticed brown spots on my garage floor between the rear tires. I went by an oil change place near my house to ask them to look under there. They allowed me to go under there and see what was going on. The rear diff looked dry and clean. There was, however, some type of brown gunk on one of the two mounts located a few inches in front of the differential. They wiped off the gunk. I went home, cleaned off the garage floor, and taped down a paper towel in the same spot. The drips on the floor were dry and not oily. It seemed wet and chalky like road grime. I didn't see any spots for a week, now the spots are showing up again. I am making an appointment to have the car looked at this week. Has anyone else had this issue?

First, confirm that the "leak" is indeed a leak of diff fluid and not road debris build-up OR half shaft grease. If a diff leak, since you mentioned it being in front of the diff...my guess would be a failing axle input shaft seal.

Yeah, I'm uncertain that it is differential oil. It doesn't seem to be thick and oily like i would expect it to be. I was thinking a leak near where the drive shaft connects to the diff and also, like you said, maybe a combination of lubricant and wet weather water and grime. Since it's dripped several times in the same spot and I've never seen this in over 7 years of having the car, I'm getting it looked at.

Thanks for the input.
