Thumbs down Rear - ended last night...What would you do?

Guys,

I got into a car incident last night on my way home in Houston, TX - a Dodge Ram didn't stop in time and crushed a rear of my silver 2008 IS 250 - see photos. Luckily, no one got hurt.

I had my Lexus since 2010 and loved driving it - it had all I ever wanted back then - navi, ventilated seats, hot body, and 6 speed manual transmission. It's got 85K miles and it's completely paid-off.

While I am waiting for insurance company to process my claim, I need to figure out the best action plan - either: (1) fix it, add a nice body kid and keep it, or (2) fix it and sell it, buy something new (I've been drooling over 2014 IS 350F Sport).

There are pros and cons to go either path. I can afford to buy a new 350F, but rather not have a new note or spend a lot of cash. On the other hand, my current IS250 is getting old, mileage is getting high, technology is not the latest, and frankly, I am a bit bored with it... So, I can spice up my current ride by adding a hot body kit and keep it - option (3), or go ahead and replace it with a new ride....

What options do I have for the body kit? Can you share photos or links, and prices if available? I would only want cosmetic changes to the body. Always wanted to have those smoked dark LED tail lights... Any recommendations are very welcomed. Thanks!

If it isn't Totaled, Fix and trade up.. (Houston sucks) apparently everybody there do not know how to apply brakes as rear accidents are high there for some reason..

Sorry to see that. I live in Houston so i feel you pain. I would honestly just move on. It's not going to feel the same to you after you shell out all that money to fix it.

I would personally get a new car. The damage looks substantial and its going to be harder to sell the car as the new model just debuted. Insurance might be able to give you the most money.

That looks totaled considering the fact that it is a 08 IS250 with 80k+ miles. It's probably worth only ~20k.

Does your back door have problem closing?

Like everyone else said, if you can afford to get a newer vehicle, then definitely go for it.

It might get totaled since there is rear quarter panel damage among the entire rear. Take the insurance money you get and go get a new IS250. Always upgrade if yiu get the insurance money.

I was able to open/close doors. I did not notice if it was any different after the impact.

Thanks for feedback guys. I'll wait for insurance company to assess the damage and let you all know if we are buying a new cur or not.

Btw, I have to say I am truly impressed how my car took that hit. I did not feel much of the impact as most all energy was absorbed by car's trunk, bumper, and my seat. I love Lexus even more now. After driving different Lexus models for the past 8 years I truly believe it is the best car brand for the money you pay.

Take a closer look. See if the gaps are uneven at the door gap. Is the rear windshield still intact? No cracks?

As far as I know there were no cracks on the rear windshield. Although it may be no longer true after a tow truck guy used a craw bar to open the trunk so I can get my suitcase...
