Default LoL @ My Lexus Dealer....

Just did the 90k fluid items on my 2010 IS at my Lexus dealer and they wanted $79 to replace+install the cabin air filter.

The part alone was $40.......

Just ordered from Sewell for $14.75 and I'll install it myself like I've done every 15k miles....

I can't believe the prices they charge for this stuff....

they probably charge a tad more for that just on the simple fact when done improperly, the gears on the filter door can be broken very easily. then thats a VERY expensive fix from the dealer

I know it is. I learned that lesson the hard way and my extended warranty through Geico paid for it to be fixed.

its 6.99 from any auto store, cabin filters are almost all the same. they all take the same time to install.

At the dealer you most likely pay full listed price on parts

Funny how some people think technician's time is not valuable...it takes you time to install it, so if the dealer does it for you it will cost some for labor...nobody works for free

if you wanted "cheap" parts and labor the dealership may not be the place to go for you...just sayin
I get all of my work done at the dealer.
I drive 30k/year as this is my work car and they let me bring in parts I buy from Sewell.

My biggest gripe was the price disparity between the list price of these silly little air filters ($40 vs $14).

I actually was planning on buying the filter at the dealer yesterday figuring I'd probably pay $20-$22. When my SA told me $40 for the part alone I laughed at him!

It's pretty much the same everywhere. The local Toyota dealer had a price around $68 to replace the cabin air filter in my Tacoma. I politely declined, bought one at the auto parts store, and installed it myself. The Acura dealership had a similar price for us when we had our TSX. There's a lot that I will have the dealership do. Replacing cabin air filters isn't one of them.

Dealership is in the business to make money.

If price of service was a concern, avoid dealership and go straight to a mechanic shop. That price is not surprising at all... we all know that dealers will overcharge for service.

Changing cabin filter is a piece of cake and there is DIY on here. No excuse why anyone can't do this.

I just went through that with brakes. Advisor told me that they wanted $850 for rotors and brakes. He turned to me, and said well it's hard to get them off, and greasy I said lets not play this sexist game. I've rebuilt 3 engines, and grew up on a farm. Just because I wear a suit doesn't mean I can't get dirty. Just ordered the parts from Sewell for $228. I plan on working on her next weekend. Yes, I change my own air filters also. Sorry I get sick of men thinking women can't fix their cars. You won't see this woman stranded. My husband which is a retired Marine laughed at the guy. Said you pissed off the wrong chic

I would write a letter to Lexus NA to complain. Seriously.
