Default Why didnt my car power down?

Hey guys

So I turned off the engine, stayed in the car, then hit the power switch once to turn on the radio. After a few minutes, I hit the switch twice to (what I thought) would turn off everything, but it didn't. The interior lights stayed on as did the headlights but my dumb *** didn't realize this and almost ended up with a dead battery.

So what happened here? Is this a case of my car being too smart for me? I've done the same thing before but I guess I exited the car and locked it up. I assume that ensures it ****s everything off? Idk. Also, I tried it again and made sure that I turned off the "auto" switch for the lights and that seemed to completely shut it all down...

1st press = electronics
2nd press = ignition (gauges start up, power windows can be rolled up or down, etc)
3rd press = power off

edit:
i just reread and saw that you hit it twice completing the 3rd press

next time, i would just stay in the car until all the lights on the dash, confirming that everything turned off before getting out of the car

If you were in the passenger side of the car, the car doesn't know to shut off the lights. This happened to me once.

From what I've observed, the countdown to turn off the headlights and such doesn't start until you open the door. If you want to remain in the car, just open the driver door and then shut it again.

I do that when my headlights are on and I need them to shut off automatically without touching the turn-signal stock when my car is off.

This happens to me too occasionally. Most likely what happened is that you pressed it twice too quickly after one another. If you press it twice really quick, sometimes the car will only receive the one click. I think it has a slightly delayed mechanism that causes this. So next time, I would just suggest that you wait 3 seconds between button pushes to be safe. That's what I do.

I would bet money that this is what happened. I've noticed it as well.

Yeah--I'm thinking the same thing. I don't think it has to do with opening the door, because the OP said all the interior lights stayed on. The auto shut off of the headlights doesn't leave the interior lights on too.

Yeah I totally agree to what bichon said.

I also just got out of my car, locked it with key fob, lights stayed on, locked again, then all lights went off.

Pretty sure lights would've went off after a few seconds with just one lock though. Thanks guys. Our crazy cars are too damn smart!
