Hello all! Recently the belt on my 07 is250 was chirping. I replaced the belt and the chirping has continued and has progressively gotten worse. It starts from the moment you start the car. I had new tires out on the other day and asked the guy at Goodyear to take a look and see if he can find the problem. They said one of the pulleys was bad but without diagnosing ($$$) the problem fully they would not be able to tell what pulley for sure. Is there a way I can tell which pulley it is myself? I have 100k on it now so is the tensioner assembly shot? And that's what's causing the problem? Thank you in advance.

If you take the belt off and try to spin each pulley you might be able to hear it, but more than likely I would think it's the tensioner.

Ok great thank you for your help. Does the entire tensioner assembly need to be replaced or just the pulley?

Don't just assume it is the tensioner pulley; you have quite a few pulleys in there :

1) alternator
2) A/C compressor
3) water pump
4) tensioner pulley
5) accessory pulley

But to answer your question about the tensioner pulley, from my research you have to purchase the entire tensioner assembly as one whole piece. I had the same squeak, but mine was easily fixed by a new OEM accessory belt.

Excellent info! How do I know which pulley is which? And do you agree the best way to check is by removing the belt and turning each pulley?

^That's not from the 2IS motor; there is no P/S or fan pulley on the 2IS.

You can replace the bearings for both the idler and the tensioner as I did, but in my case they were not causing the "bird chirping". It's either the alternator or A/C.and since turning off/on the A/C does not affect the chirping I'm going with the alternator.

As someone suggested remove the belt and check for play and noise on the pullies and also check the weep hole for the water pump.

I'm currently experiencing the same issue. I'm really hoping a new belt will solve the problem. The good news, I guess, is that right now my 2007 IS250 is at the dealership for the carbon build-up CSP fix. Hopefully they will be able to at least diagnose the problem and let me know exactly what I need to do to correct it. I'll report back with my results.

Have a link to the part you purchased to replace just the tensioner pulley itself and not the entire assembly?

Funny you should ask. My Lexus mechanic had to go next door to the alternator shop guy and he just so happened to have the bearings, IIRC it takes two bearings not one for the tensioner. Let me see if I can get the numbers from him.

Mine sounds like this on cold mornings and once warmed up it disappears. Some people suggest spraying something like WD40 on the belt while its spinning to determine if it is the belt.

Is it the belt that needs replacing or tensioning? how easily does the belt come off? any tests that can be done?
