My driver's side rear door was repainted without my permission when it was taken in for repainting of the pillar around the windshield and had to be painted all the way to the gas lid cover as it is one piece. Now I am wondering how much this hurt the value of my car. In the process, they also removed the door panel breaking it and having to buy a new one. No one seems to want to step and take the hit for this one. The pillar was repainted in the past because of a deep scratch, but never the door and the panel was never touched. Unfortunately the paint work started chipping after years and i had to take it back. HELP!

Sounds like they needed to blend the paint, can you see any issues with the paintjob? What makes you think it would lower value?

The new door panel was already put on and why would you need to blend when other shops didn't need to do so? B team painting the car instead of the A team? Problem is it's very obvious it's been painted. Quality control was not there and they even painted over the clear plastic rock guard near the tire.

Blending is the proper way to paint. Panel painting makes it easier to see when a door or a panel has been painted on its own because you have a clear line separating the old paint from the new. That being said, proper painting process does not always guarantee a quality paint job, unfortunately. I would definitely take it back because of the fact that they painted over the rock guard, and I would also argue the quality of the paint job. With a blended panel you should have to really look for the blend instead of being able to point it out right away.

It's been painted about 5 times now in the last month so I am beyond frustrated already!

If it looks terrible then yes it will devalue the car. Professional body shops should have no problem blending it.

Every car i've taken to a dealer for trade-in valuation they always feel around the edges of the doors to see if its been repainted. You can easily tell if a car may have been repainted this way because the edges will not be smooth like they are from the factory.
