Default Previous owner painted my is350 oem wheels black- help me undo it?

I just bought myself a 2006 is 350 with 158,000 miles

The last owner *blacked out* the badges and wheels. I hate that look and have already bought new badges and am at a loss for what to do with the wheels.

He has them painted black.. not plasti dipped but painted... they are the stock lexus wheels and I am looking for ways to remove the black paint for the beautiful silver underneath.

They are not damaged and in GREAT condition besides the ugly black

Any ideas?

My last resort will be to pay $400 for all 4 to be sandblasted and re done by a local wheel re-finishing shop....

I don't want to do that...

Here is a picture of one of the wheels

Would be cheaper to just buy some aftermarket wheels probably.

If it is in good shape, maybe just swap with someone local that might like that murdered out look.

I have seen stock OEM rims go for $400 on the classified section many times. Also you can probably sell your black OEM to recoupe some money.

You can easily plastidip them or send them out for poweder coating. OR if your interested I have an OEM 18" set sitting in my garage that I might sale.

Congrats on the purchase.

I don't want to spray paint them and someone correct me if I am wrong, will using paint thinner on the wheel ruin the lexus silver along with the black?

I really just want that black gone

I feel like sending them off to be refinished is my best bet...

You will not be able to safely take off the black paint without affecting the oem paint and clear. My advice to you would be to pick yourself up some aircraft paint stripper and go to town. If you're not comfortable painting yourself, have them professionally painted or powder coated. By stripping the wheels yourself, you will save some $$ in labor.

I understand, sounds good to me...

I'll have to buck up and have them done right by my local shop. It will be worth it in the end.

Thanks everyone!

Wish you were in California. I would trade for my OEM wheels, untouched.
