Default Will This Be a Total Loss? (2009 IS 250 2nd Gen.)

I was hit by someone running a red light on Sunday 8/18. My beautiful 2009 IS250 43K miles was mangled.

My insurance company is playing it cagey and not confirming it's a total loss, but that's what it looks like it will be based on their actions so far.

Your thoughts based on pix?

Hard to say until the body shop looks into the car thoroughly.

Keep us posted.

Ouch... but I dont think its total loss, looks like still drivable? But glad that you are ok man. Sorry about the crash. Its so coincidence that someone got this video tape when this accident occur, its good that you have proof to say he ran the red lights, good luck man!

Yeah, without the airbags going off it looks repairable BUT if there is any damage to the chassis rails at all, then the chances of it being written off increases greatly.

"...based on their actions so far."

meaning that it "looks" repairable to me, but the actions they have taken i.e. moving it to a salvage yard from the body shop lead me to believe they have a different idea.

well if the cost of the repairs is greater than the value of the car they will claim it as a loss...

plus looks like the crash bar is pushed over which means frame damage which means loss...

I'm not a professional but I know what it looks like. Their actions and all point to a loss...

GL OP. Glad youre safe...

My insurance company told me if the repairs were > 75% of the value of the car...but that was like 8 yrs ago.

To me, it's not totalled...but there are ALOT of parts that will need to be replaced. I doubt frame rail damage, mostly comestic really. Assuming the radiator and compoents didn't get pushed into the motor. If it was me, I'd PUSH the insurance company to total it; it'll never drive the same again.

Glad to hear everyone is okay. WAY TOO MANY accident threads here lately!

Ive noticed its hard to estimate damage on these cars. I was in a minor fender bender back in May and it looked like just a bumper cover and turned into over $5500 in repairs. Check those crumple zones, there could be alot more damage than meets the eye.

Heard from the insurance inspector this afternoon. He estimates damages at 15K presently and says I am within a range of 2K -5K from a total loss.

Turns out the left frame rail is bent in towards the motor, but in his estimation it doesn't look like it's hitting it. He only had a screwdriver and crowbar at the salvage yard when inspecting and said that they may get it up on a lift and find more damage which may total the car. I am personally wondering how the radiator is because there was fluid everywhere after the accident and the window washer pump is clearly still full.

He submitted his preliminary inspection back to the insurance company. I put word into my adjuster via voicemail to call me to discuss the potential total loss and how the frame rail can even be repaired while maintaining the structural integrity of the vehicle so that it can withstand another impact should I ever so unfortunately be hit again.

Thanks for your replies.

Wow, glad you are OK and able to walk away from the accident.

There is front end damage but hard to tell the total extent of the damage without putting the car on a lift and really inspecting it. IMHO.

Hope everything works for you and you get what you want.
