Default What kind of headlight and fog light combo you think looks nice ?

My IS250 09 is in pearl white. I was thinking bright white headlights and purple fog lights but I'm opened to better combos! Thanks :^)

4300k (stock) up top with 4300k bottom or 3000K fogs.

purple causes immense eye strain, not to mention that you would get the least usable light output. to me it also looks silly

i had purple headlight and fogs on my black Navigator. it was different compared to everyone else's 4300,6000 and 8000k hids. People thought it looked cool but the cops didnt. Id probably just match the headlights and fogs with 6ks for the color car. I have 8ks on my wife's IS

Well if your location ON means Ontario then i'd shoot down the purple right away because I live in Ontario and i can tell you right away that purple lights won't fly.. you'd be gettin pulled over in a heart beat.. For a pearl white car i'd stick close to either the 5000k (crystal white) or the 6500k (blueish tinge) range.. personally i think 8000k's are too blue.. thats just me though

Then I think I've decided on like white headlights with a hint of blue and white fogs... or should I get a bit of blue in my white fogs too

(courtesy of xenondepot.com)

** note: K = Kelvin, measure of color temperature **

OEM color temperature = 4100 K. correctly-rated aftermarket HID kits/bulbs use 4300 K as a "near-OEM" color temperature. (see source post)

as you move from right to left along the inside parabolic curve, light output decreases as color temperature increases. because of the parabolic curve of light output vs. color temperature, the decrease in light output from 4100 K to 5000 K is not as significant as from 5000 K to 6000 K.

so what does this all mean?

if you want maximum light output, stay with the 4100 K w/ your low beams + 3000 K for your fog lights.

if you really want to add a touch of blue to your HID's, some run 5000 K+ to achieve a "balance" between color and light output. 6000 K is a very popular color temperature rating.

while 8000 K might be legal if you want to claim it on a technicality that it's "blue-ish white" (YMMV), the light output at 8000 K is so diminished (vs. 4100 K) that your headlights are simply not throwing enough light to provide visibility.

anything higher color temperature-wise, and you might as well turn your headlights off.

since my car didnt come with the OEM hid bulbs, it had some cheap 8k that burnt out i replaced them with

5k low beams
3K fog lights

6k seems too blue for me so 5k was the closest i come back to the OEM 4300k without spending a grip for OEM bulbs.

Great post projectdna!

That being said I had (well, close) and like a 6k/3k look. The ones I had on my 300 were PIAA and was 5k/3.2k. Still liked the look because it was near OEM. Plans to put that on mine, just waiting on the warranty to go out...

I had the 5k/3k , but now I'm at the 6k/3k look. It just looks clean, but most people either match their low beams or go 3k I believe.

Stock 4300k lows and 3000k fogs JDM look while keeping the brightest usable light with the low beams (easiest to see out) and fogs (yellow light cuts though fog the best).

5000k low beam
3000k fogs.

Anything over that and you just lose visible light.

Please don't run 8000k or higher

6k Lows and 6k Fogs, My opinion is the yellow 3k fogs are a bit to "Honda" for me, dont get me wrong I drive a honda as a daily and I love the look but I just cant really feel it with my IS.
