Default 2006 Is350 Waterpump

Brought my IS in for an oil change and they said the water pump is starting to leak, has anybody had experience with this? Also where is it located so I can see how bad it is damaged. There is a little pink liquid at the bottom of the engine bay but I cant tell where it is coming from. Also how much should it cost from a mechanic , the dealership wanted $862.

this is a common problem on the 2IS, premature water pump. If you look on the front face of the engine where the pulley and drive belts are the water pump is there

looks like this

If it were leaking where would the coolant fall too? because on my engine their is pink from the top of the engine were you pour it in all the way to the bottom, so im wondering if they spilled it and think it is leaking or it actually leaking

To figure out if it is truly leaking, clean out the engine of all of the pink crust or residue, top off the coolant tank, and monitor the engine bay each day for leaks. As was mentioned, this is VERY common and unfortunately issue on the 2IS model. I had mine replaced at only 27k miles.

That's about how much a dealer will charge for parts and labor from what i've seen.

Parts should be around $250 for the water pump, the rest is pretty much labor so if you want to save some money you might benefit from taking it to a good independent shop or even a Toyota service department to cut down labor cost.

I'm at 53k and my SA already made note it may need replacement soon. Sould be around the 60k mark as well.

OP, I'm sorry you're experiencing this but it is VERY common. As others have mentioned. Purchase your part and take it to an independant shop that has done this service/repair before. Search your regional sub-forum for places other members have gone to and recommended. GL

I took mine in for an oil change and they found a small leak in mine. It was covered under the extended warranty, but on the printed work order it shows the cost as $254.14. This is the first time it has been replaced and was at about 73K miles.
