Default Engine Oil Level Low Warning

Hi guys,

I just got the warning "Engine Oil Level Low", pulled the dipstick out, check the oil level, it looks fine to me (the oil level is near the max level).

So not sure what happened here, maybe the sensor not working probably? I did my last service about 9k km ago.

Need some help from you guys, really appreciated.

Thanks alot

I would check the oil and the filter and see if it helps anything. If the warning icon still comes up, you more than likely have a bad oil level indicator.

If the oil level flashing there is a change that your oil pump being bad. If it stay on, then oil level sensor problem. Make sure check oil level when your car is cold for more accurate.

Yes checked the oil level when the car was cold.

The warning showed in the middle of the dashboard (where normally shows the temp/gear position etc) for a couple of seconds then disappeared. and only poped out when was on the highway.

so guessing it's the sensor?

you should check your oil pump. Sound like your oil pump is being bad. Check it out soon, i have same problem like that on my scion tc and end up blown my engine.

Default Warning

I have been having the same issue. I am taking mine in today and hopefully they can trouble shoot it.

Typically with a bad oil pump, you would get low oil pressure warnings, not low oil level warnings.

I don't know about lexus (haven't have that problem but on scion tc) there is no oil pressure warning light. If oil level is low, it will stay solid. If it bad oil pumping, oil level warning light will flash. I haven't read user manual of lexus yet but you should find information there (about oil level indicator light)

OP did mention about if only show up on highway that's the reason i think oil oil pump. Anyway, double check to be sure is always good thing to do.

Are you sure you have the right dipstick? I know this seems odd, but I got this ALOT when dealing with Honda motors, since alot of theirs are visiably the same, but different length sticks (thus affecting the TRUE oil level).

I believe within the last month I've read about an actual oil-level sensor on the 2IS model; could be wrong, but it's what I'm remembering probably from a late-night web session.

There is only one dipstick on the ISx50...

There is an oil level sensor on the ISx50, as well as an oil pressure sensor.

It can be either the oil pressure sensor or the oil pump itself based off your description of the problem.
