// mega thread bump...
Anyone see any new products out there to add 3 to 4 blinks per one touch? I don't need any of the other features. If it needs programming outside of the 2IS that may be possible.
Tap Turn lists an LM449 as being compatible for $60 but it may not be completely programmable in our chassis.

I came up with 2 different OEM PN's to add to the confusion which may be interchangeable? IDK!

Looking for options.

Jeff, are you hinting that powering it externally while in place **may allow** one to program more of its its functionality?

81980-53030 is the flasher for 2006-2010 models and 2011-2013 models without LED DRL. It is designed for cars with two front turn signal bulbs in each headlight.

You know, thinking about it, I think there is a better solution to that. Depin or put a switch on the flasher relay pin 1 (yellow wire), then you can power up the car and use the signal switch as required but the flasher would still think the car is off and be in "programming" mode. Alternatively, you program the flasher in another car and lose a bit of the functionality. Either way.

I've been meaning to get one of these for a few years, should probably do it.

I'll take a shipping code too. If you could PM one. The only features I would like is the smart tap, and wig wag feature. Not a big fan of the strobes.

As the arrival, and departure features wouldn't work on the IS250?

Thanks Jeff! Man I wish I had access at the level you do to see what you see! Are you permanently connected to TIS? I need better tools as I'm tired of comparing 4 different sites to see if they all say the same thing! -sigh-

I think I'll pull the trigger on this, it suits my driving style to a T. Likely start a new thread. I'll keep you posted!

So as you know it, these devices remain less than a 100% compatible in our car due to the can bus being active with the key on. Is that correct?

I really just want the directional one tap = 4 flashes.
Content with current alarm set/lock unlock but would entertain the wig wag function. I would be disappointed if it needs reset on a regular basis.

Are you thinking it will throw a BCM error if power is dropped for programming?

I recall e-mailing Scott @ TapTurn a few years ago and these were his responses about it.
I think the issue with this car is that it disconnects the signal stalk outputs when the car is turned off. So this limits the amount of things you can do with TapTurn. The fix was to add an external switch to Tapturn that emulates a signal stalk, then that switch is used when the car is off to access those functions so you can do everything tapturn has to offer. I have shipped several units with the external switch, and can do a custom order again.

There's a wire hanging out of TapTurn with a dual-bat toggle switch on the end of it. You mount the switch under dash, reachable from driver seat.
When the car is turned off, you use this switch "left" or "right" as if it were the signal stalk. This is needed to make programming changes, reset, and to use the directional parking feature. The reason why the switch necessary in this generation of car is that it electrically disconnects the signal stalk from the CANbus when the key is turned off.

Not sure about that model number above ^ but I can vouch that TapTurn does work in 06-12 Lexus IS's.

Thanks. That is certainly easy enough. Flip a switch to program it. Done. Could likely use a 9vdc battery and not even wire it in if it shares a common chassis ground (might want a rectifier diode so battery doesn't see 13+ volts).
I'd be content if it retains its settings. I hate doing things twice.
Did you ever get one?

Unfortunately, no. He offered to do a once off thing since I guess he usually doesn't do them, but I ended up just sitting on it as I felt our stalks were a tad bit too stiff to utilize the tap turn properly compared to cars that come with it from the factory. I see he started offering DIY kits for $110 on his website for vehicles that aren't listed as supported though.
