I have been doing a ton a research and i am starting to worry about putting in 0w-30 gc in my is350. i see some of you guys running it but it is a lot thicker than the castrol edge 5w-20 i have been using the last 3 oil changes. my car has been guzzling a lot of gas idling lately so i was hoping this would help with it. can i get some reviews on the german castrol.
I will probably change the oil in a day or so when i go buy a floor jack. stupid scissor jack doesnt go high enough without falling over.
I drive hard and tend to redline quite a bit. some times while the engine is halfway warmed up.
I do go to the drag strip and run every once in a while as well. here in SFL it stays hot year round too.
i went with the 0w-30 mainly cuz i track the car but i dont want to kill my highway gas mileage as i drive about 300 miles a week.
the 5w20 is 8.9 @100 Celsius
and the 0w30 12.1@100 Celsius

it should be fine. the motors used to run 5w-30, and now I think its maybe 5w-20 or even 0w-20 on the newer model years.

Don't know about the Castrol, but I use Mobil1 0w30 and it's fine. I notice smoother idle at start up mainly, i'm sure the gas mileage difference is negligible at best though over 5w30 or 5w20.

Toyota dealership put 0W-20 in mine and it felt faster after.

In my mind, the lower resistance of the lighter weight oil would increase performance, but I have no proof of this. Since I live in Texas, I am not worried about cold weather starts.

I was thinking 0w 20 but the quality of oil isn't the same. they are a different kind of synthetic. when I went from 5w30 to 5w20 the engine felt a bit smoother revving up.

I normally use 5w-20 Royal Purple for oil changes, but Im considering changing to 0w-20. As long as your using a quality oil, you shouldnt have any problems using 5w-30, 5w-20, or 0w-20

for anyone who wanted to change. i have been running the oil for a while now. I like the oil. the engine to me stays more consistent with my driving habits. idling does kill my gas mileage anymore. This could be because of the summer gas. Normal driving my mpg is about the same. maybe a tad less. once the car is warm it runs well. i stil would probably recommend 0w-20. next o/c i might change to it.
