I wish I could see them in the flesh side by side and drive them both. I think the new IS will be a big step forward as its bigger with a better interior and great styling touches. The GS is a sweet car though and if it had the 8 speed now the choice would be much easier. Btw our 10 IS has been a very good car with almost no troubles in 30k plus miles.

The car will be for my wife and speed isn't a priority but the other points you raise are important. I think the 14 IS f sport pkg will be a better value too compd the the GSF. I'd bet the 14 GSF will not only get the 8 speed but the gauge option as well.

All depends on what you guys use the car for: hauling kids around, go GS. If it is just the two of you the GS is a BIG car and not very "fun" to drive.
My friend went from an 08 ISF to 13 GSFsport and hated the GS. It is just him and his wife, so they didn't really "need" the extra room.
Single (married no kids) go IS all day everyday.
Family go GS.

guys he means F-Sport when he says F....
IMO if you can afford the GS-F then go for it...the new IS is nice but I don't think it beats the looks of the GS...the 8 speed tranny is coming but don't believe your going to get that much increase in mileage....i think it will be more for engine quietness if anything

Thanks for the replies. I thought they were adding more gears to help meet the ever increasing CAFE stndrds? The fact the new IS is based on a shortened GS4 platform really has us thinking.

The mpg gain will be minimal by switching to an 8-speed. If it's that big a concern, why not the 450h instead of the 350 F-sport? Or if speed and handling are really non-factors, ES300h?
I would get the GSF now, wait a couple of model years for the 3IS to get its junk together, then make a decision on that. There's no way you're going to get that much off MSRP of a 3IS at launch.
