Default Need second opinions, think my transmission went out, car has less than 6000 miles...

Long story short (not really), driving to work today I hear a small pop noise come from the center console (where the cupholder is at). I dont think too much of it at that time. 5 miles down the road I hear a very strange noise...

I pull into a shopping center to check my wheels, making sure none are flat and maybe the rim was hitting the ground.... everything is fine... thats when I put the car in reverse to leave the shopping center and all of a sudden grind grind grind grind..... I almost fell out of my car when I heard the noise. Sounds HORRIBLE.

****There is a very loud grinding noise in reverse, you could also hear it goin forward after 5 MPH.
We put it up on the lift and put the car in reverse, noise is coming directly where the drive shaft meets the transmission.

At this point I dont care, car has less than 6,000 miles. It is under warranty.

I made this thread in concern of my modifications.

Coilovers
20" Wheels
Axle back exhaust

This could be a pricey repair and I am trying to avoid anything that might make them push the problem on me. I know about the Mangunson Moss act, but will it apply to a LEASED car?

I'd like to know if anyone has ever had to take their leased car in for some crazy repair and what they did about their mods, did the dealership penalize you, etc....

I have already talked to a few techs here at my dealership but most of the answers I am getting are back and forth...

Thanks guys

i think it's a warranty fix. can't think of any scenario in which your coilovers or wheels caused premature transmission failure.

Put your stock stuff back on for the repair, it's worth it.

^ apparently everyone else in this thread missed the part about the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. (btw, it applies to vehicles under warranty, whether purchased or leased.)

read up on your rights, folks.

That's what I would do. Will be less headaches, and it won't give them a reason to try and not cover it.

Id put it back to stock first. I blew the stock 5 speed in my IS300 and put the stock intake, mid pipe and axle back before I took it in. Its worth it and got a loaner to boot!

PS I had a loaner for a month bc not a lot of manual Lexus repairs and parts etc. I assume yours in a auto so should be quick swap.

Regardless of the warranty implications (because there shouldn't be any) I would still put the stock wheels back on and raise the coils to make sure your car isn't damaged by some careless porter/tech.

Even though your protected by the law, Im sure it would be easier to deal with the dealer if your car wasnt modified. Not having to go through typical BS from people who dont know the law and will say that they wont cover it.

Hopefully this wont be a big issue for you! Good luck bro

You guys are all acting like putting it back to stock and then once again replacing the mods once he gets the car back is a trivial task. That's no small amount of effort and/or money. And it's just not necessary. I wouldn't bother with it. Just take the car as is, and if they try to give you any hassle about it, then raise hell.

You can also look up reviews/feedback for dealers in your area. Try google or the regional forum on ClubLexus. You can probably find out if which (if any) dealerships may give you some trouble.

Tow it in now. Nothing you have on it would cause that problem.

It doesn't get much more trivial than swapping wheels and raising your coils; it's free and takes maybe an hour of time.

Dealerships curb wheels and scrape lowered cars all the time. I think it's worth a little time to take that out of the equation.

Many warranties nail you for oversize wheels because it throws the odometer off. Put the stockers back on if you can, wouldn't worry about the other stuff.
