Question Best Place For Replacement Wheel

So last time I had my tires rotated I noticed a vibration/wobble on acceleration. The mechanic (not the dealer) told me the wheel was bent slightly. I need new tires (four) shortly so we put the wheels back for the time being.

The dealer has quoted me at $584 for a new rim. I know that's absurd, so I'd like to either get 4 new aftermarket wheels for that same price (recommend yours here with tire combination) or find an OEM wheel replacement for the following 2008 IS250 rim:

If you've purchased one of these wheels from anyone other than Lexus, please share from where and your experience thus far with it.

Thanks!

Ebay or CL classifieds FTW

$179 shipped for a replacement OEM.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2006-2007-Le...19ca16&vxp=mtr

Or under $800 for a full set of LFA rep 19"s..:http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=...at=0&_from=R40

Awesome – Not real knowledgable about these things but I'd assume going 19" would require (lower profile) tires that won't last as long as what I currently have. Love the look of those LFA replicas though, should I go 18" to be on the safe side if I'm more conservative?

Any tires you can recommend also?

Thanks!

Tire life wouldn't be affected by size as long as your alignment was true. The tires themselves would be a little more expensive, yes. One thing you would most likely want to do though is install a set of springs/coils in order to bring down the ride height and if you're not into a lowered look, a set of OEM Lexus F-Sport springs would do the trick. Not mandatory though as you'll see pictures of people without them doing just fine.. albeit a little bit higher of a ride height.

You'll find a few different tire sizes on here but the most common seems to be 225/35/19 in front and 255/35/19 in the rear. Read through this thread for pictures and tire sizes: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...ca-wheels.html

LFA rep 18" under $700: http://www.ebay.com/itm/18-LFA-Style...3a7ab5&vxp=mtr

Or here's another set for under $650.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-LEXUS-IS35...ea0975&vxp=mtr

..or here for under $600: http://www.ebay.com/itm/18-8-Alloy-W...b7024c&vxp=mtr

Ebay rocks!

Thanks for the information – searched through eBay in the past for OEM rims and new wheels but wasn't sure if I could trust the manufacturer/quality. Looks like most people on these boards tend to go that route, which gives me more confidence.

Thinking about those 18" LFA wheels you posted. If I can't convince the wife, I can always go with the ol' 17" OEM replacement.

Not sure I want to bother with springs, etc as well (will discuss with my mechanic) – would I need to do anything significant with 18" compared to the 19" LFA's?

EDIT: Thanks for all the information JS!

Nah.. you're fine with 18"s as those come stock on some models. In your case, it sounds like that would be the best bet..

I noticed that you have 17's. Is your car AWD? If so, will 18's fit? Factory chose to use only 17's and no option to upgrade. Just a question. If not. 18's will fit RWD fine.

There's plenty of people here with AWD running larger than 17" wheels though..?

I am AWD. If that's an issue, I guess I might want to stick with 17". Anyone else on here using 18" wheels on their AWD vehicle?

I have literally just dealt with an issue very similar to this (cracked rim). I have the 18" rims and if I'm not mistaken the wheels for 2008 are "hyper silver" which is a darker gunmental color. If you are looking for a new 2008 rim you may want to make sure that it is the correct color as the 06 and 07 models wheels are a much lighter silver. I do believe it's size specific to the 18" rims but just double check to be sure. The only reason the factory doesn't offer an upgrade on the AWD is because (and this is highly debatable) supposedly running staggered setups on AWD is bad for the differential, and the 18" rims from the RWD are staggered.

These wheels here are not staggered. Both are 18 x 8. Just run the same size tires on all 4 corners and you're golden..

Yeah – wouldn't stagger the tires, same on all four would be the way to go. Really digging those LFA Hyper Black wheels – Might go nice with my black IS. So... gun metal or lighter?

I am going to get the 19" staggered in hyper black for my black IS. Just trying to find the best price. There are 2 different versions on eBay it looks like. Different offsets. Not sure which to choose yet.

I'm also getting 19" staggered wheels on my AWD. You just have to make sure the overall tire diameter between the front and rear is as close to the same a possible. The further off you are, the more it causes issues with the AWD system.

Where did you hear AWD can't run 18's?

Since you're AWD, go with the 18 LFA reps as they are same size all around. The 19's are stagger, which aren't recommended for AWD.
