My 07 IS350 is also having issues with the HID's initially working and then after a few minutes one or both lights would go out. Also switching them off and back on brings them back to life only to die out again a few minutes later.
I believe my car came from the factory with HID's as I have the AFS On/Off option and AFS light on the dash. However, I have never seen my bulbs self adjust upon start up, or turn as I turn the steering wheel.
It it currently in the shop for repair. They claimed to have installed new bulbs to no avail and then tested the ballasts which tested fine. So they are claiming it must be an electrical issue they are trying to track down. Today's the second day the car has been in the shop.
