Default I'm an idiot... Cabin Filter Replacement

In doing my 60K service, I decided to do some of the work myself.... I have an 08 IS250 AWD.

I bought the cabin filter from Toyota, and attempted to put it in myself. I had no problems, until I got to the filter. I neglected to read that the car must be in "recirculate mode" to all the accordian-style door to open. I lifted it and changed the filter, and heard a pop. I broke it by forcing it open.

Is this going to only affect my heat/AC when I go into recirculate mode?

Any suggestions? Other searches mention this is a $2000 repair... Ugh...

There's a whole thread on how to DIY the fix yourself. It's really not all that bad. Here you go:

^^ Yeah if you read the DIY and are comfortable with doing everything outlined, you can fix this issue and save a lot of $$$ too. Otherwise, its quite an expensive repair at a shop/dealer. They do really need to put a warning sticker on that cabin filter door tho....

I am new to this forum but, I ran into the same scenario noticed the recirculation seemed like it wasn't working so i took it back to the dealer i bought it from (AUDI dealer) they had the is250awd that i wanted... they said nothing was wrong said it will cost me 90 bux if i wanted them to send it to lexus.. I said go ahead and send it to them.. they were hesitant cuz I said yes.. Well lexus didn't find anything wrong either.. So i looked like a idiot saying there's something wrong. Got home looked online about this problem and there it is a fix for it. The fix was pretty simple remove a couple of panels, remove the blower box, drill a hole for the broken lever arm to attach back with a screw and done. reassemble finish.. took about 2 hours..

I just ended up leaving the recirc door open with the cover back on.. in hopes that now I get some kind of hybrid re-circ/fresh mode..
