What size dog crate fits in the trunk?
Hello, I was just wanting to see if anyone had dogs that need to have a crate if they travel with you. The metal wire ones are the ones I'm talking about.
I have a XL crate and it clearly does not fit in my trunk. I haven't tried the XL shipping crate yet but I really doubt it'll fit.
How does everyone else do it?
Thank you

Not suggesting that you would do this, but to anyone reading this thread, please never put your dog in the trunk. The reasons might seem obvious but you never know what goes through some people 's minds.
I let my dog run free in the back seat that has a dog cover, but thinking of buying a system that consist of a bar that goes through the upper handle bars and a harness that that attaches to the bar allowing the dog to move around.

I pray to G_d he means the XL crate was collapsed and didn't fit in the trunk. If the OP has a dog that needs an XL crate then he/she has the wrong car. Get a harness that attaches to a rear seatbelt. Never let a dog roam free in the rear seat. I am heavily involved in dog rescue and can tell you horror stories about drivers who had to slam the brakes and had their dog fly forward like a projectile. A harness is cheap, easy to use and will create minimal if any discomfort. Please be kind to your pets. They always look out for you.

I truly hope you're not considering putting your dog in the trunk I'm not a crazy PETA person, but how would you feel riding in the trunk of your car? Especially since your dog needs an XL crate. What if someone rear ended you while your dog was in the trunk? At least in the cabin they have more chances of surviving (if you strap him down properly as Keppie said). Just lay an old blanket across the backseat and let him/her feel like a king/queen!

So... I guess my post was confusing.
I DO NOT put my dog in the trunk. I am looking for a size of a crate that could fit in the trunk of our car folded.
And my lab enjoys rides in the car in the back seat with the window opened. I do have a seatbelt harness that hooks up to the buckled up seatbelt.
The car does not feel too small for the dog. He lays down and sleeps when he wants to and has enough room to practically do anything I guess.
I am sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for the update. I didn't think the dog was in the trunk but these are crazy times. If your lab is OK with a soft sided crate they collapse into much smaller parcels than metal wire units.

I don't think soft sided crate would work. I have a 42inch crate that doesn't fit. I wanted to see if the 36 inch crate would fit. I have realized our trunk is very small.
