Default HELP: What grade of synthetic oil should I change to? 2006 IS250 AWD

Hello CL,

Would like some advice as to what kind of synthetic oil I should change to. I hear/read that a lot of people use 5W-30, 0W-20, 0W-30 and was just wondering which one would be suitable for me.

I am currently on conventional oil in a 2006 IS250 AWD with about 73,607 miles. I'm also currently in Michigan so the weather is getting pretty cold.

It'd be great to hear some suggestions and opinions.

Thanks!

I use Mobil 1, but would also recommend Castrol Edge or Royal Purple. I believe the "range" of efficiency on the factory recommended 5W-30 will still be fine for your cooler winter climate :

I use 5W-30 Mobil 1 Synthetic on my 2007 IS 250 AWD as of my last oil change.

yes, I feel it is very safe to say the general consensus here is either mobil 1, or royal purple. I use mobil one.

I'm in Toronto, so it gets fairly cold. I'm on Amsoil 5W-30

You can use Amsoil 0W-30 or Mobile 1 Synthetic 0W-30.

I prefer Amsoil.

I would say use 0w20 or 0w30 if you're in a cold climate. The 0w helps out on the cold starts.

I prefer Mobil 1 fully synthetic and ran 5w30 for a while and then recently switched to 0w30 and will keep using 0w30 just because the car feels better on cold start ups now.

I got a synth oil change at Toyota last month and they put in 0w-20 in. I live in Texas, so there is really no cold weather here.
