Default Painted Exhaust tips

Has anyone painted the exhaust tips on their 2IS using VHT paint? Are there any problems with it flaking?

i personally dont think ive ever seen it done but im sure if you use a high temp paint like people do for calipers it should be fine. What color are you trying to paint them ?

I want to have them matte black. If not would a clear coat make it glossy? How many coats do you think will be needed?

not sure if i would put a clear coat on a matte finish. Unsure on how many coats but you will be able to tell as your painting.

Most of the painted exhaust tips I've seen do just end up flaking over time. I guess if you used a good high temp paint you might not have issues. No idea how many coats you would need though. I wouldn't put a clear coat on a matte finish either if you're gonna do a matte finish.

Oh I was saying I might use clear coat later on to make it glossy black.
But do you think high temp primer needs to be used too?

Its going to flake off, no matter how well you prep it. Even OEM matte painted exhausts flake over time.
