Smile Considering buying please advice

Hello all

I currently own a 2005 530i and i love it but the maintennce is just too high on it. my bmw has 117k now i bought the car when it had like 80K.. No problems in three years like major but maintence here and there 300-400 dollars every service interval. now im just scared to own the car because the bmw 5 series are definetly not relaiable after it goes beyond 110k. So im trading in the car to get an is350 I think its a good upgrade and i dont have to worry about maintaining as much as i did with the bimmer. I have posted a link to the is350 that is a good buy i ithihkn but the miles are just too high, my friend works there and getting me the deal for 13k here is the link:

http://www.indyautoman.com/detail.as...postid=2935997

2006 LEXUS IS 350 would greatly appreicate your guy's opinions. would i be looking at more problems at that mileage or should i even go forward with the trade or try to find something else?.. My max budget is about 18K

Thanks,

And please let me know the average MPG you get with this its showing 28hgwy but i dont believe it i curently get 27 avg highway and city with my 530i

For $13K...that's a pretty good price for the car if there were no major accidents, airbag deployment, or water damage. Also, if proper paper work can document all required regular maintenance.

As for the mileage, my friend just sold his '06 IS-350 with about 150K only because he had a new baby and needed a SUV. No major mechanical issues except for regular maintenance work. I think there is a member here with about 200K miles and no major issues.

But with $18K budget, I think you can get a newer model with lower mileage. Also to note, new model 3rd gen is coming. So this will be outdated soon. People might trade in really soon for new models with more 2nd gen will be available in the market.

As for MPG...for my is-350, I get about 22-24 mpg avg between city and highway depending how I drive and how much traffic there is in Los Angeles.

Good Luck

EDIT:
Some known issues that I can think of: Mostly electronics like the nav screen no longer responding to touch. Seen a few people with water pump issues causing wet floors. Just make sure it's changed at proper intervals. All I can think of now. I'm sure people will add more.

Hmm you get cars with such high mileage. A high mileage IS350 isn't much of a worry as these cars are built like tanks. A 28mpg highway is possible if you don't drive hard.

But for 18k, you could get a car that is newer with much less miles, albeit not as performing or luxurious as an IS350. LIke Civic or Corolla :/. Then you wouldn't have to worry about anything going wrong

Thanks!

I have been looking but all i see around are the 250's if mileage is not a concern then this one has everything in it fully loaded and also has no accidents 2 previous owners i will be the third one and the there are regular service intervals as the car fax is posted on the dealers website.

My budget is 18k but im tradeing my 530i and would like to be in the same neighborhood of 15-18k as i will get about 11 for my BMW and get just pay the rest off.

Would you guys be kind and check the carfax for me rel quick there are service intervals that i see but i dont know if there are some things that are missing that needs to be done on a high mileage vehicle like this.

My only concern is the milege everthing else is just what im looking for.

Thanks for the reply guys!

There's 2 or 3 threads on coming from a BMW to a Lex.

I came from a 04 325Cic to 10 IS250 C. Main reason was impending repairs needed on the BMW. Mine just turned 60k miles, but around 50k, I had numerous electrical and other problems surface-many of which were going to be very expensive. BMW's seem to be great up until the 4 year 40k warranty runs out-then look out.

Lex is a totally different animal in terms of handling as others have said. Lex won't go round corners on rails, doesn't have the same handling. BUT, Lex has its own style and personality, its more refined, more comfortable, quieter, still quick, but in a leisurely sort of way. I won't have a BMW again, even if its a new one. I'm on my 3rd Lex and don't know why I did the BMW thing in the middle.

Both amazing cars, but totally different. A 20 min test drive will tell you all you need to know.

Have you sit in or test drive the IS? I think the 5 series is more equivalent to the GS or ES in term of size. The IS350 is definitely a upgrade in other areas like HP.

Thanks all for the response im heading to go test drive it right now will update you guys on the situation. And yes there are many electric issues with the bmw, its very annoying and all bmw wil tell you is to replace the module which is like close to 1k or 2k, ridiculous. im a college student so i dont want any major bills coming way soon so thats why planning on getting rid of the bimmer. If mileage is not an issue than i dont see why not!

Thanks all for the opinions will update you on what happens after the dealer visit. if everything goes well will be lexus owner today!

Bring a flaslight! Oh, sign up on Lexus.com using the car's VIN # to view its previous Lexus dealership service history.

Things to look for during the test drive :

1) Whines or squeals in the engine bay. Please remember that the tick tick tick is normal on these cars, due to the direct inj system
2) Check underneath the car for visuals on any damage of the exhaust/diff housing/etc. If they have a lift, tell them you want to examine it on a lift.
3) Check ALL electronic functions/buttons
4) Check tires for abnormal wear for possible suspension-related issues.
5) Check the fluids in the engine bay. Smell the engine oil for any burnt aroma. Check color of the brake fluid. Is the coolant pink? If you have pink coolant encrusted around the overflow container cap...that is normal.
6) Check for coolant trails down the lower front of the engine. Water pumps often leak or the bearings on them go.
7) During the actual test drive, open her up! Look in the rear view for any smoke.

Good luck!
